As the Intel guy said, the CPU has overheat protection built into it, and there are other ways to check the CPU temperature. May be it'll be less accurate, but this is your decision.
Intel's DTS reading isn't something they officially support anyway, so I don't think that they will give you an RMA for the CPU no matter what you do or who you write to.
