Be careful what you wish for. No telling what they will replace it with or how long it may take. It is odd though that John's i reading correctly. This seems to be very rare from what I have seen. I wonder if it is just a quirky read problem or if there really is that much difference in the core temps on some chips. it would be nice to be able to understand this phenomena. I've have a hard time understanding why after all this time we can't get more accurate temp readings at least at the bios level on most motherboards.
It would be interesting if you could isolate each core and see if the one that reads so high atv idle would fail a torture test much sooner than one that shows a lower temp at idle. Maybe you could run an individual core "affinity" test using Superpi or prime or something?
