Hello all, new to this board and generally new to overclocking. I recently overclocked the setup in my sig however I ran into alot of issues because I installed my ballistix in the DDR single channel setup (like a moron/noob ...atleast I hope thats the cause of my setup failing blend mode on prime within one hour when both cpu and memory are underclocked (After running small fft for 12 hours+ to insure it wasn't cpu)...Well those are my 2 pennies for now I will hopefully update everyone later

    So, what about SLI?
Intel made all the hoopla that SLI was going to be supported and nVidia has yet to deliver.

The way I see it, once Intel puts the memory controller on the CPU die, then nVidia is going to have to cut some kind of deal with Intel again to support their latest and greatest processors.......no?

So if nVidia doesn't give Intel SLI rights, then Intel can just say SCREW YOU on the boards.

While regarding the issue of CPU Q-Fan do not work, finally I realize that P5E Q-Fan only support PWM Fan

I installed Intel OEM 4-pin PWM CPU Fan and it works very well. But if Asus supposed to do this why don't they mention a single word in the user guide to let their customer know about the limitation? And it's also quite odd if Q-Fan can control 3-pin Chassis fans but leave CPU fan alone.
Just saw another thread of P5E MF saying FSB/DRAM divider problem is linked to Transaction Booster setting in the BIOS, so I tried it by changing it from Enable/0 to Auto and that resolve 4:5 and 5:6 problem on 0502! boost up my oc from 400x9/3.6G/PC8500 to 460x8/3.68G/PC8832 with the SAME Vcore/Vdimm Now there is no reason for me to flash back 0107 anymore.

So if you have divider problem, set TB to Auto or just disable it may help.

Nice find TKC - I've always had it on AUTO and never had any issues or problems some on this board have. Maybe this is one of the reasons?

I'm not sure but if you are saying you can not make your ram running stable at 1066, that's a different story from mine.

After flashing to 0502 bios, my board can't even POST with 4:5 and 5:6 divider when Transaction Booster was enabled, no matter how low FSB was used, but now the problem is totally disappeared.

Actually, Ai Suite does work, at least Ai Booster and Q fan. When you open Ai suite you get error message, but particular modules work. At least on my machine (Vista 64).

Asusuite with windows XP and 0502 bios i get error and no information (Mhz, vcore, vdim , ....)

Qfan & aibooster works but for me thats useless , i just want to see Vdim because with other bios like 0107 , 0303 , if you set 1.84vdim in bios = 1.95v Asusite

    1.9vdim in bios = 2.0vdim Asusite

and so on ...... ( its Dangerous)

i would like to know if the 0502 bios as the correct voltage or its the same like 0107 and other bios (my asusuite dont work anymore with 0502)

Anyone with 0502 bios and Asusite working OK to see the Vdim ???

    regards

It is the same as in the earlier bioses. I set vDim at 1.92 in bios to get 2.1 in Windows (according to Ai Suite).

DualCore... Do you run any specific voltages on something?

I can't make my BallistiX run 1066 without locking up my system from time to time.

Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 P/N BL2KIT12864AA804 can reach as high as 1172MHz@2.1v and 1232MHz@2.4v in Tom's test using Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi/AP Edition, that's amazing.

    hmm...troubles pursue me

I have noticed that alot of times when im trying to install something I get this error telling me how the installation files got corrupted when it was just copied a minute ago! Then some time later I got a super BSOD (super only for its later effects lol) after restarting, when loading windows it would give me a BSOD...running safe mode gave me a BSOD....After doing a slow reformat of my HD and while installing windows, yep you guessed it BSOD (page faule in non page area or something like that)...

I am running bios 0107 and during this my memory (ballistiix ddr2-800) was underclocked at 770~ish with 4-4-4-12 timings. But then I noticed I was using the 4:5 ratio and I remember reading how some people had trouble with this ratio. Could the 4:5 ratio cause my RAM to be unstable and cause some of my files to be corrupted, although it post, install windows sometimes..etc? Or is it the RAM modules themselves and I should just RMA those suckers? I originally thought it was a bad HD not being able to deal with the stress of installing something large, but now it seems to be the memory?

Well TKC I think 1232mhz @ 2.4 volts is kinda weak...

    I think 1311mhz @ 2.3 is much better! That's just my opinion.

    WZ

By all means M Farkha set your mem on auto and run those timings til you get your system back up then load up bios 502 as it is more liberal on the mem settings.
in the bios leave the FSB Strap to NB set at auto. Then scroll down to dram frequency and set it to auto. It will boot on the 4:5 but it will be a little more relaxed
See if that helps.. I have found it best top allways leave the fsb strap to auto and just adjust the dram frequency after I installed bios 502. Give it a try.

you can also try setting the fsb strap to Northbridge at 266 and leave the dram frequeny on auto like this

This worked well for me with bios 107.

Another nice feature with this G.Skill HZ and this board is, if temps are making you hover right at 400 fsb you can just crank your memory to the Xtreme and gain quite a bit of power as a result.
Here at 400 fsb and my memory running on the 3:5 I am running at 1333mhz!! at 2.36v. this pushes my cpu scores up dramatically
from 1:1 or even 4:5 both of those settings will return you around 20,700 at tight timings which is about 1,000 less cpu points then the 3:5.
    Here is that shot.

This was with my 8800GTX running on my gaming settings of 644/1457/1035

Stay patient with this board!! I am finding more out about it all the time. I really like it!!

You may need to rob another healthy ram, or CPU, or both, and install on you mobo to isolate the root cause.
For my own experience regarding memory divider problem on P5E, before I set TB to Auto or Disable, my board itself won't boot with 4:5 and 5:6 ratio. So If you can boot into OS with these divider settings, but not stable enough, I think your problem isn't related to divider setting.

    Shoulda done it earlier...

So after my computer seemed to be apparently stable for a few days I didnt think it was a hardware issue, but rather a software. Updated the bios and everything seemed to work...installed windows, great! Then moved on to install drivers and programs...great! disk defrag....BSOD.

So I decided to run memtest just to double check my ram was good (did a 12 hour memtest loop few days ago seemed to be fine), and it turns out one stick was bad.

However, can one stick go that bad (over 400 erros in < 1 min) over the course of a few days?? 12 hour memtest should have stressed it enough to produce something...I have my bios set to 2.2V, a few posts up say that the actual voltage is higher...so if thats the truth then my RAM modules were running over 2.2V and might explain this...any thoughts?

    Question

Is anybody on here running a QX9650 on this board ? I'm trying to figure out what board to get. Been thinking about the Abit's but I have a Asus board now and have for years and really would like to get another one. Thanks

Hey Gary1951 I would love to have a QX9650 but, they are out of my price range!! Well I could drop the cash on one since I am working overtime all the time here lately but I just can't justify it til the price falls.

I think you would do well to run the processor on a Asus board but, you got to run what you are comfortable with. A couple years ago I would not have considered any board but an Epox. I still have 2 Epox 865 chipset boards in use 1 a 478 board and the other a socket 775. Point is now over the last couple years I can't imagine not running an Asus board. I think you will be happy with any board you chose. I will say the only manufacturer I won't touch even today is MSI. They made some nice boards for AMD but they have yet to build one worth a damn for ands intel rig.

Hey M. Farkha it happens even with the best memory. Every so often you just get a bad stick. I have gotten my share over the years.....

Happy New Year!! Thanks for your response. I think I will go with this board and a QX9650, Tuniq 120, and 8 Gig of G Skill 1000. I'm a huge Flight Simulator X Player and do alot of Photography stuff. Also EVGA 8800 GTS 512, and a MM H2go case. Do any of you have any thoughts or sugestions? Thanks!!

That would be a great system - may I suggest a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme over the Tuniq. The TU120E is the best air cooler out there...
    Great choice on RAM.
