my mushkin requires much more voltage compared to my ballistix
    ballistix needs 2.17v for 1200 n mushkin needs 2.32v
testing out the mushkin it can do 3-3-3-8 @ 800mhz 2.3v n 5-4-4-12 @ 1200mhz2.35v but no way i can go higher than 1200 is it possible i have d9gkx n not d9gmh in them? or it is just a crap pair that i got from rma?

thanks .. play with clock fine delay particularly dimm 1 and 3 clock fine delay and sometimes command clock fine delay

nice FSB on that cpu!.. my E6850 L720A489 maxes out at 502FSB on DFI X38, 501FSB on Asus Blitz Formula and 490FSB on DFI P35. Is that 12/18 bios with ps values for clock fine delay ?? seems more confusing than single/doubel digit values ?? I can't seem to flash to 12/18 bios it won't recognize it in winflash - says please load correct bios!. AWDFLASH only ??? It recognizes 11/28 bios though.

play with clock fine delay can make a huge difference! i.e. 600mhz 5-5-5-9 at 2.19v not memtest stable after clock fine delay tweaks 640mhz 5-5-5-9 at 2.19v memtest stable

yeah i do... happy it matches max FSB as my Asus Blitz Formula unlike my DFI P35 which was 10FSB less max FSB. Only outstanding issue on DFI 38 is working 5:8 divider and more stable 3:5 and 4:5 divider fix. 1:1, 5:6 and 2:3 seem fine though.

i tried your fine delay settings eva takes 2.3v i can do 1200 with 2.2 with value ram but my mushkin xp2-8500 want 2.32v @1200 5-5-5-15 or 5-4-4-15 anything less i get errors in memtest

That's how the 12/07 and 12/18 BIOS is set up. I prefer it that way as you know the actual time delay in pico seconds. However it doesn't seem we have access to all the values. If using defaults the board may set a value of 465ps. In the BIOS there will be an option of 420ps or 490ps Obviously the board has access to values that we don't as of yet. Another thing I've noticed is when setting back to Current Value. Instead of reverting to board default it locks it to whatever value is presently set. Have to do a FSB change to get the board to actually go back to auto selecting the value.

I'm not sure what the processor will do on this board . It did 560FSB on the P35.

Edit: I've got the board tore down right now. Tomorrow when I get it back together I'll load up WinFlash. I usually flash from a USB drive so haven't tried WinFlash with this board.

any way to test to make sure? withought removin heatspreaders lol
my ballistix do 1200+ 2.13v @1200MHZ but dont do 3-3-3-8 @800mhz like my mushkins
i gonna see if the board likes micron fatties
that's normal older D9x stuff need such volts... newer D9 seem to be alot better

weird... might stick with 11/28 for now then heh..

btw, what you set to boot from in bios for USB drives.. never could get USB drive with bootable floppy image to boot on DFI boards... tried USB-FDD/USB-ZIP/USB-HDD and no luck ??

If it's configured to be bootable, hit escape during post. When the boot screen displays it should be listed as a hard drive option.

Praz has the easiest way but you can go into the bios and set your USB drive as the primary booting hard drive out of all the other drives (i have three) and then make sure the hard drive is selected as the 1st boot device.

    2x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 Tracer @675Mhz 5-5-5-9 at 2.55v

Swapped the dimm slots for this pair of Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 Tracers from dimm slot 2+4 (yellow slots) to 1+3 (green slots) and seems can overclock a bit better. I can now hit 675Mhz 5-5-5-9 at 2.55v - highest ever CAS5 memory clock for this pair of Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 Tracers at Super Pi 32M passable speeds!

Still 32M time seems around 4-10 seconds slower at 3600Mhz mark than 965P/P35 chipset. I guess the loosened internal latencies on X38 allow memory to clock higher but at a cost of clock for clock performance ? Still I am looking forward to 3dmark benchmarks with X38 x16+x16 PCI-E slots

THANK YOU, EVA for the bios settings!...i will try to use some of them.

i hope you won't take this negatively...but...i really want to know what you can push that E6850 to for an overclock...i'm really not interested in memory performance since the conroe and kentsfield showed up on scene...it has made it unnecessary to try to punch out high system memory bandwidth when the cpu has a huge L2 presence!

i am really interested in more (cpu) horsepower performance over memory bandwidth performance...memory bandwidth is really passe now, not like it was when we only used a single core processor with hyperthreading on the 875x chipset.
