What Prime95 version, and what issue? I've used on this mobo since new on all BIOS and to current v0903 with Prime95 v25.5. What would I have noticed if going wrong?

Hi, everyone.. just wanted to say Hi and let everyone know I LOVE this information. This has been my best rebuild (best gear) then finding this forum was the iceing on the cake. I still need to get a better cooler to overclock beyond the little I have overclocked

    thanks all

Right now I'm trying to overclock with just 2gigs instead of 4 hopefully this solves the issues with me failing every test. FYI: I am a noob at overclocking so maybe this is why I'm having issues.

I left all the setting on auto except for the dram voltage (2.0V) and the fsb 9x366 and it's stable . LOL

The voltage CPU-z reads is 1.320 I wonder if thats correct .

hey guys i wanted to ask if 0903 improves overclocked stability? i was at 0902 but then i flashed down to 0602 cause i heard it didnt have the temp issue but it does (atleast for me), so i might as well go back up to 090x

Never ben an issue so much as just a fact of limitations, a trade off.

I dont under this so called temp issue. Even if there was an issue with the thermister, as it were in the P5WD2, is couldn't be fixed by a BIOS flach nor would it matter what app was used to read it since the actual sensor thermistor sends the same info to any app. The only change that can be made/changed in our BIOS, is to readout the CPU IHS temp v/s the core die temps combined, since this is coming from the CPU directly.

so it's a hardware issue that can't be fixed?? that would really suck.. i dont get a correct reading on my 2nd core.

in F°, as Electric Eyes told you, it is normal fluctuation that can be influenced, like Kup said, by reseating your heatsink. But sometimes, only lapping would help, but you'll always have at least some 5°F difference. In anycase, you're fine. If those were °C, I'd worry

i am quite frustrated to see the forums dont hv any newbie section
Plus i would also like to know whether this board will support a simple kingston 6400 2 GB(dual channel) RAM chips??

Also please guid me as to how to flash the bios from "step 1" to the latest BIOS version... n suggest the best BIOS right now.
    thank you.

I still would like to see a step by step guide too for making a boot flash drive from start to finish, and flashing your mobo.

It is still a grey area in my mind, and you never seem to get all the info at once.

I wish one dude who has his boot drive creation game up to speed would make us a guide too....

10-12°C, difference between cores is too huge. The thermal compound resting time won't help you, this is really huge and abnormal.

Check the loading program is all cores are used the same way
    Then, reseat your heatsink
And finally lap it, as a last solution

At idle my core#1&2 are 5-10*C higher than core#3&4. Under OCCT load the differences are tighter and don't seem to go above a 5*C difference. I agree 10*C seems like alot, thats 50*F!, but I've read elsewhere this is normal... Do we all have a bad mount or something? I used Arctic Ceramique and applied according to their directions.

3-6°C between core is the most frequent. I had two Q6600. The first, was about 2°C difference only, the second, is about 5°C on load. I tried reseating many times, and also rotating my Apogee GT waterblock. In fact, as well described, I noted a trend change on the temperature difference when rotating the waterblock. It depends on the water flow through the cores, and probably on the flatness of surfaces.

This was largely debated in late 2006/early 2007 when quad cores arrived. Lapping the IHS of CPU helped most people at limiting the difference in temperature. Also, using some blocks like the Fuzion or the GTX is known to help

At 10°C difference on load, I'll definetely lap my CPU if temperature is limiting the OC

Temp is def my limiting factor. Jan is when I will take apart my WC loop and then I plan to use a custom backing plate and use a fuzion nozzle setup for the cpu. Lapping a cpu, right now for me, is like the black arts. Not sure what's involved or what tools to use to go about it. I am very pleased with my speed and dont think even with all the addons ill make it stable over 4GHz, but it's worth a try, if not just once.

I was intimidated by lapping, but there are some great tutorials online, and as long as you are meticulous and careful, it should go fine and I noticed a drop of about 4-5 degrees Celsius. (My heatsink base was really uneven)

Use EZ Flash from within the bios. The AsusUpdate method is for reverting back from 0902 to an earlier bios.
