Bottleneck it? In resolution or texture max size? For both I would say no.

I have been 1 year and half with my current setup, no changes at all, 7900GT and E6600. Next will be NH and maybe a D9P. This card looks a bit heavy, something is not right about it. The 8800GT looks much more promising for its price and perfomance than this one. Well I will wait and see the perfomance on higher resolutions because that is what matters.

I don't know! I just remember reading before that the reason why the 640MB GTS was outperforming the GT in a couple of RTS games was because the 512MB was bottlenecking the rest of the stuff. Apparently.

    Alright, seems neat.

    I know a 8850gx2 is coming.

We gonna see a NEW gtx? Though from the looks of it the gts leaves no room for improvement since all the streamers are enabled. They'd have to design a new card probably.

Any clues on what we can look at in Jan/Feb?

Haven't seen that, myself. In the HWC review, the new GTS (G80) card often edged out the GT at higher resolutions, mostly on account of it's larger memory bus and 112sp. And of course, the 320MB GTS has often been beaten by the 640 MB version at higher resolutions.

It just looks because of its dual slot cooler. The 8800GT looks so light.

Nah, those where less shader heavy and more "brute" force games I bet.

Remember the "old" GTS got more ROPs and wider memory bus.

Ithink the old GTS has 96 and the GT has 112 so the GT has more brute force on ROP section the old GTS has more 128MB VRAM and more 56bit's wider(I think )

    Those numbers are shaders.

GTS got 20 ROPs, GT got 16. GTS got 320Bit bus, GT got 256bit.

The 128MB extra memory means nothing. Its simply just a requirement to get the 320bit bus.

I'm guessing everything else will be discontinued, then they'll bring out a refresh of the GTX

So is this card for sure going to be released on the 3rd (ie: newegg)? i might have to get a credit card and my mouse hand ready...

hmm... i wonder if newegg will update at ~midnight or 6-7am?

if it is in fact going to be $300-350

Card looks sweet but memory will be a factor for guys with hires displays at 1920x1080+ or playing with loads of AA.

See this article for a good read about the G80 architecture and how the shaders, rops and memory appear to affect overall performance:

    http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...ts2-page1.html

You can extrapolate the info across the G9x range.

Is it verified that there will be a 1gb version? If so, will the memory bus be 256 or 512?

256, I *REALLY* don't see NVidia designing a new board for these chips, and it'd require a new PCB to maintain a 512bit bus. Also, going by NVidia's current memory control method, the bus and rops are tied together, and at their current system it'd have to have 32 rops to do a 512bit bus.

So how much if at all will these chips outperform at the higher resolution if the memory bus is less than the current gts and gtx?
