A question, can a HD3850 work in Crossfire with an HD2600 card..and still separate adjustable clocks and so on?

...or an even older card for that matter?

My first post in this thread...but here is what I've got so far...

    Q6600 G0 @ 4.0Ghz (445FSB)
    2GB G.Skill DDRII @ 890Mhz 4-4-3-5
2 x Sapphire Radeon HD 3780's (stock clocks)

My CPU and both cards are liquid cooled. The cards are idling at 29C and 28C so I should have plenty of room for overclocking. The BIOS are flashed so I can surpase 860Mhz for the core. Catalyst 7.11 installed.

    Starting Point - 3DMark06 - 19,796

I've left the stock heatsinks on the memory and pwms. So far I haven't had any problems with them getting excessively warm.

WinXP...I've given Vista several tries and the gaming performance just isn't there.

Has anyone tried using a Zalman VF1000 with the 3870? Im worried it might not have enough clearance to keep the stock pwm heatsink in place.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

    Setup:

    Crossfire-X:

    SLI vs Crossfire:

    Crossfire wins.

Cunsuption in SLI system vs crossfire system:

    A crossfire HD 3870 system spends same as a 680i + single 8800GT.

    ^^Interesting indeed.

Finally a review with 2 different mbs. The results make it pretty obvious why all reviews should use this method (if they can).
This also puts into prospective the cost factor of 2 3870 vs 2 GT and the performance associated with them.

I really love the power consumption.

    Me too!

    When I tested HD2900 CF setup set @777/980 +my X2 6000+@3500Mhz 1.5V power draw from socket was reaching 720W during 3DMark06 run!!
Now with this pair of HD3870 set @877/1311 all the rest identical I can't even push over 450W!!

That is huge improvement under load, but idle is amazing too! It's better (lower) with two cards than what it was with ONE HD2900Pro(XT) !

Hehe I´m also monitoring power consumption with my Gigabyte Odin (yes I know, weird system, and inaccurate) but my system with the 2900XT idles at 150W, with an X800 at 100W, and with 3870 100W too! Impressive. And loaded, 2900XT 330W, 3870 only 235W!! More impressive. In a few days I will test 3870 CF.

    Soooo, basically, in performance wise

    8800GT > 3870 > 3850 > 8800Ultra > 8800GTX > 2900XT > 8800GTS

    No.

    8800Ultra>8800GTX>8800GT>3870>2900XT>8800GTS>3850

in single card set ups. Xfire gives more benefit than SLI atm, however, and shifts that list more towards ATI's benefit in multi GPU set ups.
