I originally posted herehttp://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=165833) because I was looking for help starting out with the right BIOS (wasn't having much luck with 0401), but I have limited patience and went out to test on my own from all that I remembered from countless nights reading in these forums... so I will start posting here now with more tests...

pics should be manditory in this thread. Cool stuff, though. I though about getting this mobo once I found out the 680i isn't playing nice with Yorkfield, but I'm going to hold out for a few months and see what happens.

so, with 7/16 tubing, what does this nb block do to flow?

Hi all, just popped over from the main maximus formula thread to share some of my findings with ya all.
At present I am water cooling my complete system, that is CPU, NB and two gfx cards. With a stock motherboard, ie no re-seating the NB/SB with AS5, my idle temps are; MB 45c, NB 48c, SB 49. It will prime all day with an OC of 356 x 9, however I can't go any higher as my CPU temps will hit over 80c at 400 x9. I know why this is so as I'm probably trying to cool to much with my two fan swiftech rad.

However, on my kitchen table I have a prep'd replacement, reseated and gooped nb/sb, motherboard ready to go in. I'm hoping to see quite an improvement in my motherboard nb/sb temps once I've done so, but at the moment I'm waiting upon a delivery of the correct tubing, ordered the wrong size, damm this mm to inches confuses me lol.
Once I've kitted it all up I'll be able to post my findings, if you're interested, by the end of the week, I hope...
    Cheers
    Chris

Look at my signature. I also begun with with the same Swiftech kit you have. The MCR-220 couldn't deal with my Q6600 B3 heat dissipation, even at 3.2GHz. It was too hot and I had my fans at 12v to deal with it

I added a PA120.3 (adding a MCR-320 QP on your loop will breake your flow, especially if you're planning to add the NB and SB to the loop, as the MCR-320 is more restrictive than the PA120.3) and I could get my B3 to the same OC in my signature, with all the 5 fans at 5v. I now got a Q6600 G0 that needs much less vcore than my B3, and it is even better now

Here, you can find the PA120.3 in stock, the best radiator for LPDC ever made.

talonman, did you see the link to my post in the other thread??? i dropped 14*C by reseating with mx-2 and adding watercooling to the NB... and that was with a .04 voltage increase from the previous NBv setting. i'm in the middle of redoing some stuff iwth the system but i'll get you an update if anything changes. let me know if you need more info.

derek, try running OCCT Beta with the slider all the way to the ram side and see what your NB temps are.

I am afraid I did. You guys are successfully making me feel like a lazy SOB!!

14*C drop is hard to ignore withought buying another thing...

I have sitting right in front of me:
    (1) Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM.
    (1) Arctic Silver CMQ-22G The high-density, ceramic-based thermal compound - Retail.
    (1) Arctic Silver Adhesive.
    (1) Arctic Silver ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier - OEM.

It's just that taking the old off, and making sure I do the install better than they did. It makes us first time builders, and first time water cooling dudes a bit squeamish. Well, it does me.

I have to confess, your post is making me buckle quite a bit...

Its worth doing on any of these recent boards with N/B and S/B joined by a heat pipe.
Ensuring that each end is flat to its chip, at the same time, can be done with a piece of glass.

Feel free to post all the best remount links that involve using the stock ROG cooling, or good removal instructions.

i'm a noob too with watercooling and whatnot... it was definately worth it. i went with Artic Silver MX-2 because it was high on the test list. i can't remember where the list was on here but i think it might have been in the WC'ing section. i'll get you the info for your thread once i get everything set up (raid and whatnot). just remember, the block should come off relatively easy... if not then add more heat with the hair dryer. i used a screw driver inbetween the two and very very lightly twisted it till it came off. if it didn't budge, i added more heat and repeated. that stuff is like concrete. it's aweful!!!!!

Thanks for the tips, and do keep me updated on your info.
When you get that NB loaded up we need to get you on the chart!!
I know that will be another thread, but I am about to attempt RAID0 too so I will be looking at that info closely too, that is if I can ever figure out what exactly I need to have on my boot flash drive.
I was trying to get the BOOTMAX project off the ground:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...hlight=bootmax
I am still kinda a lost there... I need somone to take that thread over that knows what the frick their doing. That is not me right now.
And then there is the Matrix RAID, mabey that is our best bet?
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=120184

    Back on topic..

Out of the AS products I have listed above, what would be the best to use for the remounting?

    I don't have the MX2...

Mabey mixing my AS adhesive, with standerd AS5 or AS ceramic would be best?

So if I stick with the stock ROG cooling, what backplates do I need?

CPU, NB has one already correct, and does our SB actually need one, or are the pins good enouigh?

If I go for the backplate thing, do I need spacers also, to prevent it from shorting out my mobo?

I wish some company would offer the performance starter kit... So many parts you have to hunt down to do it right.

I wish D-tek would have given me one.

I need links to exactly what I should order. Hopefully all from 1 spot.

Petra or NewEgg would be fine.

Hi, thanks for the good advice, it's already on my next shopping list early in the new year. However I will sling it on top of the case where the swiftech is at the moment

EDIT: Decided to go for it in the end, seemed to make more sense to do now then have to dis-assemble it all again...

Asus Maximus Formula SE vs Malik

After 40 sec. heating by hair dryer:

    Fit on SWIFTECH MCW30:

    Installation in case:

    That is good

    Final view:

    Conclusion:

There is no problem to remove asus cooling - of course when you use for example a hair dryer Swiftech mcw30 fit ok.

    Big thanks for Pete

    Thanks for the post Malik!!

looks like you went all out buddy!!

    Sweet.

I think I am going to stick with the stock ROG cooling, but was glad to see your success on the removal.
