the card itself without cooler is just the same as GT, I don't understand why people find it horrible while it just doesn't have a sticker on it.

anyway, if I get one I won't see the cooler cause I'll put a wb on it, and even if I would not, I'd see the back of the card, cooler looking at the floor, so...

except for people who really want to keep the stock cooler (no wc, no alternative sink) and don't have a PC case I don't see why it is a big deal? and concerning people don't using PC case I guess they couldn't care less seeing the mess on their desk or elsewhere, so the GTS cooler...

Sounds nice, glad I got a EVGA 8800GT. Might have to step up to this one.

My guess on performance is similar to the Ultra at lower resolutions, but similar to slighly slower than the GTX at higher resolutions / high AA, etc. It will probably be limited by memory bandwidth.

i bet it overclocks no better the the 8800GT's. you'll get more performance over the GT's though, due to the increase to 128 SP.. just my guess.

Eh, that just depends on a few things.

1.) Is it the same PCB as the GT?
2.) Is it the same voltage as the GT?
3.) Is it a different revision than the GT?(think GTX(A02) vs Ultra OC'ing(A03))

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, but stock cooling vs stock cooling the new GTS should go farther.

With a higher wattage estimate on the card I'd think there would be more voltage added. So it should clock higher you'd think with that alone. It will be intresting to see but then again I don't know if the core would be changed all that much.

Think of it this way, why is there such a shortage on the 8800GT? Could it be that the GTS is going to launch in a bigger way because its using the same core with just unlocked shaders?

I would say its the same core as GT, just with 128 working SPs. Then a tiny bit more voltage to make sure of the clocks and a dualslot cooler.

    Simple and effective.

no one said that. the gt clocks pretty well. some of us just think it will be the same core as the gt, with 128 sp unlocked. so it might just clock around the same amount... of course, this is just us speculating.

g92 gts should equal g80 gtx.

i wonder wot the g92 gtx will have in the spec columns.? more rops more shaders higher clocks

considering how close the G92 GT gets to the G80 GTX, the G92 GTS should be faster than the G80 GTX, not just slightly either

There will probably not be a G92 GTX.

The High-end 9 series should launch early next year(1st quarter), these chips are merely to fill in the mid-range(performance) spectrum for when the new high-end arrives.

    GT - $200-$300 price range
    GTS - $300-$400 price range
9 series will cover both the $400 - $500 range and the $500-$600 price range.

Also, don't expect more rops on the GTS, it's likely to stop at 16 rops.

according to that graph the current ULTRA is still king of them all... right?

at least i think so because my XFX Extreme edition ULTRA has 675 core / 1667 shader and 2300 memory... does that mean my card is still faster than anything expected to be out by end of Jan. 2008 ???

    what is TAU ??

    Remember AMD 64?
64bit computing is JUST NOW starting to get support... and AMD has been touting their 64bit capability for God knows how long.

Same with 10.1.... Just don't need it right now...by the time you need it, your card will be obsolete anyways and replaced. Just like how the early 64bit AMD chips have been replaced by faster/better chips.

10.1 is a gimmic.... Microsoft (the developer) has said so themselves lol.

As I stated in another post, look at the 15%
It has 15% more stream processors
It has 15% more tmus and 15% more taus
Memory wise it should be the same, same layout, looks like the back of the card and the physical layout is the same, therefore it's essentially the gt without uncut stream processors.
so I believe this card should be exactly 15% faster than the gt at the exact same specs (hence if you clock it to 650/1655/970)
I can get the core to 766/1998 watercooled
The real question is, do they use the same exact memory modules?
If these are much better, than I could see 2300mhz as a definite overclocking possibility.
I'm just excited to see benchmarks and I do hope I'm wrong and it's 30% faster

so this is summing up to be around 20% faster? even if has more tmus taus? so it can't get more than that?

yep , i also point to about 15% faster

    i think :

    8800GTS Default + Quad-core @ 3ghz = ~ 15K ( 3Dmark 2006)
