Does anyone here run 2 cards in Crossfire? I'm getting this board tomorrow and was just looking at the layout in a picture. It looks like you could actually use 2 cards in Crossfire (such as the upcoming ATI 3870's) AND still have room for 2 PCI cards. I have an X-Fi card and Killer-NIC card.

Hey, thanks for the advice after playing around with it some I have got the FSB overclocked to 400 mhz. When I try to run Orthos though it fails with the following error: FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4.

If I run the StressCPU test by itself there are no errors only when I run the blend or Large, in-place FFTs test do I get this error. I assume it has something to do with timing because I have increase the voltage on the RAM and still get the error. The type of RAM i have is Corsair CM2X1024-6400. If you need any additional info let me know. I have attached images from cpu-z.

Yeah, crossfire works in this board. However, the second PCI-E slot is only capable of 4x speed after turning off the other PCI-E slot at the bottom, one of the LAN controllers, and something else. A 4x PCI-E slot would bottleneck a 3870 in most situations. If you're going for Crossfire I would definitely be recommending an x38 board for the two full speed 16x slots + the 4 from the southbridge (lets you use little extra board features with crossfire)

As far as x38 board recommendations go, DFI's x38 board is due out at the end of the month. If you need a more immediate switch I've heard good things about the (curse me for saying this) Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks cuhaos. I made a mistake in thinking the P35 was 8x/8x and not 16x/4x while in Crossfire. I will have to wait and see what the new 3870 has to offer and if it's worth putting in Crossfire. I'm sure this DFI board will due me well for quite some time.

Just noticed something going from 9/13 bios to 11/07. With 9/13 bios I would randomly run into a problem where I would try to go into the bios and instead i would get a blue bar on my screen, and after that it wouldn't even post (forget postcode I believe it was 88). To resolve the issue I would unplug psu, and clear cmos with jumpers.

I just ran into the same thing again with 11/07 and it seems to have been worked around. It now reboots itself twice and then goes back into the bios with all settings saved.

Edit: for clarification, when i was unable to get into bios with 9/13 it was usually after doing some priming, and would appear after a reboot - it wasn't being caused by bad settings in the bios making it not post

I thought GTL is only important when you want to overclock quads? I also got a E6750 like morphias. At present my CPU runs at 425 FSB * 8 multi = 3400MHz for 24/7 setup with GTL at default settings. Even at 450 FSB * 8 multi my chip runs without the adjustment of the GTL settings.

Good Point Over looked that one I don't know it very well could be GTL related but dual core I doubt it! Some boards like Mine don't go for that and I mean not manually setting GTL to spec even with a E6600

well by trial and error, my system has a max stable OC of 3.2ghz 400x8 @ 1.3v without touching the VNB (stock is 1.33) and VTT voltage.

i wonder if putting on the transpiper will help much with temps or is that pretty much my systems best FSB on stock vnb and vtt?

if not, im going to up the vnb and vtt and see if i need to mess with the GTL settings

No GTL chart is going to be accurate for the majority of boards in use. They should be considered as a rough guideline to follow. Dealing with voltage differences as little as 0.001 makes each board somewhat unique. The tolerances of onboard components making up the divider networks and more importantly slightly different VTT and NB voltages is going to result in different Reference voltage setpoints.

Transpiper works depending on how well you install it (Application of thermal paste, active cooling on it, custom mods). However, you will see a much bigger improvement for temps by putting a fan on the PWM or chipset (or both).

You'll need to start feeding the NB and VTT a bit more love if you want to see some good results. Try 1.57v NB and 1.53 VTT, GTL's 106 106 112 (VTT GTL's may need adjustment).

Make sure you overshoot CPU voltage when you're doing initial testing (just rules out one other factor that could be causing errors/barriers). Once you find it stable you can step it down after and re-test.

hmmm i only tried 1.4v last night and it wouldnt pass 1 minute of orthos on stock nb and vtt... that eva2000 guy had his at 1.46v. maybe i just wasnt putting enough volts into it?

I seriously doubt there will be much enthusiasm towards the x48 chipset. It doesnt seem to bring anything new to the table at all over x38 except a bigger price tag and 'offical' 1600mhz fsb support, and ddr3 1600mhz support - all of which can be achieved on an x38 with some work in the bios (not to mention mobo manufacturers can add the memory support via bios updates).

Although judging by the Gigabyte x48-DQ6 pics it doesnt look like it would take much R&D work to get a x38 PCB to work with an x48 (they have almost identical desgin). So we may see them come out just becuase they were easy to roll out.

Well guys, after messing with the GTL's and adding more VNB there it is. 9 hours prime blend stable @ 3.6Ghz.

Now I'm off to see what 4GHz takes for fun

Your NB looks like its about to explode

stick a fan on it and if that doesnt keep temps <50 oC under load, consider re-seating the motherboard cooling assembly with some Arctic Silver 5.

Yeah yeah whatever That's only under prime load, it usually doesn't go over 55C

What size fan and how would you suggest "sticking" it on there?

Figured I'd play around with only running 2 of my Crucial Ballistix rather than 4. They do well, very impressed with them. This is just a first run, I don't doubt they can do more.

60mm for PWM, mount it by screwing it directly on to PWM heatsink so the screws go down between the fins. For chipset, depends on how much room you have. If you can fit a 120mm blowing air directly on it, do that (secure it with zip ties). I have a 60mm fan blowing on it atm because thats all I could fit.

Say I've got a fan with a 3 pin power connector, can I plug it directly into the mobo for power? or do I need a 3 pin to molex adapter?
