hmm. I think those of us buying these are more concerned with overclocking them and playing games.

I can't speak for everyone here but I honestly think most of us could care less about DVD playback. We seem to be all about overclocking and gaming.

How much better can the playback be anyways? What is the advantage?

It pretty much only means less CPU usage which to me doesn't really matter, I wouldn't be playing Crysis or whatever meanwhile I watch some HD/Bluray content anyways.

Performance, price, overclockability & IQ are the interesting things.

So far so good. i just installed my card and its a PNY 8800gt/
temps are good. I took Fuggers advice and torqued the 4 gpu cooler screws down as hard as I could without stripping the bolts. (for best gpu contact
got 169.04 installed and the latest Rivatuner. fan is locked at 100% squealing like a pig lol! lets see...

I wanted to ask someone about the fan control in Rivatuner. I would like to individually set all 3 fan settings; 2d, low 3d, 3d , they are all 3 linked with 3D ... is there any way to set them seperately? I'd like to do something like 50%, 75%, and 100%

    I agree

who cares much about 10% less of cpu sucking with one card compared to another? these are designed as gaming cards for gamers rather than hd decoding dedicated cards
8800 GT has good game results, overclocking, and runs cool, that's all what interests me.
though, it's a good argument to keep fighting with amd on its battlefield, limited to video decoding atm

i'm not sure what those ss showing 90 c were from or what airflow was the culprit inside the case but i've been running fan at 100% and ati tool artifact checker for over a hlaf hour now and I can say my gpu temps never went past 63c on the stock cooler.

the new gts will be higher price...so if you want more you pay more.

either the g92 gts will be significantly more costly or if priced too close to the gt then gt sales will fall...

mm interesting where is the mainstream / top of the bell curve for sales ? price?

i think there is a sweet niche in the 300-400usd. price range.
    8800gt should be 200-250. (it is 230-300)

g92 is a shrunk g80 with bumped up core/mem speeds and tweaked shaders.(more/higher clocks)
8800gt has basically taken the place of old gts's with 0-30% improvement depending on apps/settings.

g92 gts should replace old gtx for performance (0-??% improvement@65nm?)at a slightly lower price point makingway for a new high end some time in the future. at least that's how it seems to me atm.

I do love this card, don't get me wrong, but even overclocked these cards can reach their limits way too easy. It is an awesome card for the money and should be more than enough to play on 1920x1200 for the time being, but I will be looking for a top end g92 in 2008.

    Not exactly the highest score.

    14321 06-3dmark

    http://service.futuremark.com/orb/re...0&UID=11881760

    This is on a oc x3210 to 2.85, 2 gigs of 1066, gt clocked at 787 core/1998 shader/1021 memory

Tomorrow I'm returning the p5n-e sli and picking up an abit ip-35 pro for a little more.
Hopefully I can get the quad back to 3.5 and bench from there

I think my PSU (Corsair HX 520w) is not strong enough for my rig ... when I overclock much past 720ish my computer has the screen go black a time or two, or just locks while on the desktop, even though Rivatuner shows the temperatures as 50ish for my SLI pair. I have upgraded air cooling (Thermaltake ND1's). Also having it lock if I go into 3D when overclocked, though I can run the Crysis GPU bench over and over without issue at its 675/1950 "KO" speeds. Another thing that's making me think it's the PSU is that ATItool can heat the cards up to about 66, but it locks sometimes after 5-6 minutes, sometimes after 1-2, even when the temps aren't as high as it's gone before without locking.

    My system is:

    Q6600 @ 3.15, 1.53v
    2x eVGA 8800GT KO 512MB in SLI
    2 hard drives
    eVGA 680i NF68-A1 SLI motherboard
    4x1GB RAM sticks
7 120mm case fans, plus two 80ish-mm fans that the aftermarket coolers use
    Optical drive
    X-fi sound card

Not sure if it's just a really bad set of cards for overclocking, or if it's just too little power from my Corsair HX 520w PSU ... any thoughts? It seemed iffy in the beginning, now I'm thinking it actually isn't enough.

Yeah, I had the same problem with 2 8800gts cards.
The corair is good but not powerful enough for the gts either.
My killawatt meter under 06-3dmark would show 470+and peak into the 500's
The scores were always low because it didn't have enough juice

Damn . Any suggestions for a good PSU in the $150 range (less is preferred by far, but more can be done if it truly is beneficial)? I can sell my old one to help offset it, but I wasn't really planning on the expense of a PSU for this upgrade round . I *really* don't want to find myself in the same spot in a year from now (I got the Corsair about 21 months ago).

I don't care about whether it's modular or not really, just needs to be good . I have seen reviews of that one on jonnyguru/etc. that are favorable... where can I buy one, though? Don't see it on newegg .

EDIT: I also see this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...37;2bRX750-D-B which is VERY well-reviewed on jonnyguru's site. any thoughts?

    ITs enough...
720 is a heat wall issue.. check ure case temps fan speeds etc..

anyways 720 vx 702 is marginal difference.. to a point of negligible.. unless ure concern with the .5 - 1 fps difference??
