Air cooling, it's at 3.15ghz at the moment, looking for more if possible. Voltage is at about 1.5v Q6600 B3, air-cooling. 680i SLI eVGA NF68-A1 board, 2 hard drives, optical, seven 120mm fans, and an X-Fi, plus (soon) 2 8800GT's overclocked.
EDIT: I know the 620 version (I have the 520) can support GTX's in SLI, so with the lower power draw it may work? If it isn't likely though I'm gonna grab a 620 quickly and sell off the 520, would prefer not to do so though if I can help it. Newegg can get me it overnight with free ground shipping since it would ship from NJ, just in time for Friday...

haha, alright pretty much you'll be pushing your psu. i've seen rigs with a Q6600+8800GTX+overclocking run on a HX520, no problems.
i say you'll be good but you'll be maxing out the psu and if you plan on keeping it, i wouldn't add any more hdds![]()
if you had a HX620, i would say your good to go.

nope...
but im curious to know the real fps effects of higher shader clocks...because shader clocking has a big effect on 3d06...but what about in games
uber scores in 3d06 can translate to absolute sfa in games.
as has been discussed/ing (?) crysis brings evrything to its knees regardless of 3d06 @ exactly the sort of higher settings that people with very expensive gcards expect to play at.
edit:
but i did see in the graphs that oc of 8800gt only gives 2fps plus to crysis at 1600x1200 2x4x. for about 20fps
but crysis is only one game out of many.

Thanks for the advice... I think I'm going to see how it does, if it holds up (I have a good ambient temperature and the cooling for the PSU is good) I'll keep it, otherwise I'll sell it (have the original box + everything, so should be easier that way) and swap it out... if I see crashing/lockups/shutdowns that seem odd, swap it is! I too thought it would be pretty close a shave on the power when I was buying the GT's, hence my concern. We'll see if it is unfounded or not.
so no one even bothered to cool the mosfet ??? most after market cooler mod i have seen just leaves the mosfet naked ... i dont think i wanna take that chance ..

From what i've read shader and core speeds are inversly related in terms of OC. I.e lower shaders clocks = higher core clocks. I wonder at 600mhz stock if the shaders can be pushed higher than 1.7ghz? Maybe 2ghz with cooling?
Im also very interested about shader OC with perfromance Adam. It's a totally new way to OC and i think that's why we really don't know what to expect. With shader intensive games these days i'm sure it would prob be more of a boost in gaming than core OC.

Is there a point to buying the KO or SSC if we can get equivalent clocks on stock cooler? Does this mean the SSC is ultra overclockable?
I'm back....
Just wondering is it loud on idle (overclocked)? I ask this cause on load that's fine the games sound will drown it out. But on idle i.e. surfing the web or music then it's a prob.
Great setup mate. I'm prob going to go KO ed and overclock at the speeds you've got yours on. Btw how does it run @30 fps?
Man these are killer cards.

oh yeah 3dmark06 detecting that is still a prob on the maximus boards
they always use the stock multi
dude
here is a kicker
i plug one of the cards to test on a evga 680 mobo i have that is lying around its has two dimms slots burned
on a PCIE1.1 i can do 745/1836/2100
but on the maximus only 720/1800/2100 but not very stable
tested on two XFX 8800gt Alpha Dogs
weird
Bummer,
Just installed my card and anytime I go to a game it hard locks on me, before I even see anything. This has happened in all games tried thus far except GeometryWars.
Even Windows experience index will lock up at the testing textures part. Running a fresh install of Vista 64 business and system in sig...
Ply
BTW, when new 8800GTS launches?
I've just preordered my EVGA 8800GT SC from Scan @ £187 delivered. More expensive than I wanted to spend but it comes with good stock clocks and they seem to be doing well in the overclocking
ETA 06/11/07
Waiting for the new 8800GT cooler from thermalright as well
