Do you guys think the 8800GT would be OK without active MOSFET cooling? I'm thinking of an 8800GTX-style cooler but it wouldn't touch them... should I grab some BGA RAMsinks and put them on if they will fit, or is the card OK anyway with a 120mm fan blowing toward it anyway?

EDIT: The cooler's design would pull some air across them, as well... so they probably won't need sinks I wouldn't think?

EDIT3: It comes with some low-profile sinks too, so if they seem needed I will pop em on

I am planning on using a MCW60 waterblock and the 8800 series ramsink kit for the memory chips. I hope the swiftech 4 black heatsink for the MOSFET will work on the 8800GT too as I have them also. I am going to wait a month or so with a 8400gs as a temporary non-gaming card. So you all can let me know how it goes

Here's my EVGA SuperClocked 8800GT with a HR-03 and a Panaflo 52CFM fan on top of it. Just wanted to show y'all

Temperatures:
37C/47C Load (10 minute ATITool run). Stock.

nice! i might have to get me one of those if my TMG ND1 CL-G0080 doesn't cool much better then the stock cooler (assuming it fit's the ram chips and all).

let us know how it overclocks. i got the same card arriving friday, and kinda curious

Well, I'm benching at 740MHz core now (haven't tried upping memory). No artifacts. I tried going for 750MHz but it looks like the card needs more voltage (started to artifact). 47C Load temperature (HR-03 w/ Panaflo 52CFM fan).

Personally, I'm impressed. It looks like the card will go much further but it seems like it needs more voltage (hopefully that's the case).

I hope someone finds a voltmod, hopefully one that isn't one requiring robotic nanosurgical skills to solder at that

Can you measure the distance from the pcb to the top of the hr-03?

GoldenTiger, I tried using the ExperTool you mentioned but it doesn't seem to be reading shaderclocks properly (1820MHz MINIMUM ???).

740MHz / 1020MHz seems to be the most I can get. Will do a benchmark in a little bit.

Edit: Forgot to post a pic. Eeek.

Bah, I was told it worked in the past

... guess it's not ready just yet, or there's some sort of tweak you have to do like a registry edit.

Hope there's a voltmod soon... those are good clocks, but we all want more

to me it looks like a stock 7900gtx cooler in all copper and a polished base. i would like to see how this and the VF900 LED works with this card as well.

I saw a review somewhere that showed it doing impressively, but its major caveat is it doesn't exhaust air out the case, leaving it to circulate back, especially important for SLI. That's why I'm going with the Thermaltake ND1's, myself. That looks good for a single-card though, for sure! Could probably self-shroud it anyway to exhaust air.

yeah if i did selective startup and benched higher can get atleast 500 points more

also hmm note the 8800gt does not follow the G80 clocks increase
which is core by 27 ( theres a weird 1682 which doesnt follow the increase)
and shader by 54

its more or less what u set is what u get

clocked higher

its not going to be a G92 based

reason .. nvidia said the new card can be slied with the older card.

Hmmmm... interesting. I ordered a pair of the KO version, so I won't have that BIOS, but hope someone can provide it to you.

If you have a way to flash back using a PCI backup, I'd go for it... if it's already in the BIOS there it may actually work

, at worst it probably just won't affect anything.

I don't know if you're allowed to, if not, just say "no comment", but... is what is being looked at regarding voltages in the BIOS actually doable on these cards (i.e. it would work, and is there OverVoltage Protection)?
