    Hey!

A little update here. I stripped her. Changed my whole watercooling setup to apogee gt, mcr320, 12mm ID tubing.
I am now priming at 3160MHz@1.43V real vcore (1.4*104%=1.456V)! Temp are low as 40-42. Screens tomorrow, gotta sleep.

You're absolutely right and btw, nice memory clocks. Cpu speed is important and should be maxed, but memory speed can make up for a lot. I'm supprised that you can't get more out of your OCZ platinum. I have the same memory and got DDR 560. OCZ guantees it at 2.8v so I'd up the voltage to 2.8 and then also give it the .3 in the bios. From looking around the forum the most this memory seems to like is 2.9v so I wouldn't go over that. If you haven't already then put a 120 mm fan blowing on the memory. You can lower your cpu clock temporally buy lowering your multi and set the memory at 200 divider. Use clock gen or A64 info to up the memory speed in windows and run something like spi 1M to check the increase. This way you can find the max memory setting.

I had no intention of saying RAM wasn't important - of course it is. RAM should be run at the highest speed you can get it but not at the cost of a lot of CPU speed. Given a choice between a CPU @ 3.0 GHz & RAM @ 220 MHz OR CPU @ 2.8 GHz & RAM @ 250 MHz which would you pick? I'd trade off at 1:4 or even 1:3 maybe but not much less. 100 MHz less on the CPU for a 300 MHz RAM increase is a fair trade but I think you'll find anything less to be a backward step.

The thread is a little old but most of it is still good procedure and a great guide for beginners: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=391768

Agreed! 100 MHz is excactly what I had to trade off the 3000+ to get the G.Skill to settle at 300 MHz, but hey then again I was able to set it at 2.7 GHz at 0.1V less then what I had to set it at 2.8 GHz (2.7 GHz @ 1.4V & 2.8 GHz @ 1.5V), so I am very pleased

    OK, guys, BIG confusion here!

Temps of system are beautiful - max: 45C chipset, 49C mosfets, open air build.
CPU Temperatures and Scaling (orthos stable):
    ~3000GHz@1.35V 35-36C
    3060GHZ@1.35V x 104% 37-38C
    3100GHZ@1.375V x 104% 38C
    3160GHz@1.4V x 104% 39-40C

    3170+ NO GO even at 1.65V !!! 46C Orthos fails in 1-10mins

    Tried already:
    swapping to 2x256MB BH5's (mine is UCCC 2x1GB);
More powerful PSU - Tagan 580-U22
Upped the volts on LDT, Chipset, DRAM, PCIE freq
Lowered the HTT multy, DRAM divider, loosened timings

Only things I see left are: 2T on ram, moving on the orange slots, changing bioses (704-2BTA now, should I?)...

You may have hit the top end of the "FSB" - you're already over 350. Have you checked it by itself ...?

MAL doesn't boot at more than 12-13. Works fine at 9. RP is 6, anything more than 7.5 - no boot.

I'm really frustrated now. There is something I am missing. Also QietIce, do you really believe 350HTT is max for the Ultra-D?! I say this is heresy.

Again - why do I think it's not the HTT - upped the volts of LDT and chipset with one step, lowered the HTT multy to 2.

Tonight I am going 8x400HTT, just to be sure.

Thanks for the help for now. More suggestions welcomed.

I'm always tempted to order a new cpu/gpu or even a new rig(whole darn thing, new platform, new mobo, etc.) for just incremental gains..just to know i have something better than before and the best of what it is(best stepping).

I'm trying to make a new policy for myself in which, I won't upgrade unless the new system(cpu) will give me gains by leaps and bounds, that way I can maybe live with my computer for 2 years+ or so before doing it again.

I looked at your board before posting and thought the same thing but you never know. ASUS changed the A8N32 in the middle (Rev 'g' ) and it doesn't do near the 350-380 I get out of the "old" A8N32s. It was just a WAG, easy and quick enough to check if you haven't recently.

BTW: Even upping the chipset voltage only buys me 5-10 MHz on my A8N32s - they've either got it or they don't. I figure the DFI's are the same, I mean it IS the same chipset and both are great manufacturers ...

Nice chip you have there, after correcting my memory timings I'm sitting in a similar situation where it fails Orthos at 3.2ghz no matter what. I'm still looking for that magic setting to make it stable.

That, my friend, made me cry all night long.

I AM POSITIVE, there is something wrong in my methods. This chip HAS to go 3200-3250MHz, orthos stable with very little voltage. Just can't find what's holding me back. And don't have much time - my contest is on saturday. Damn time!

Then the only left I can think of are bigger fans - these work well on a controller for "everyday": http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12trblhisp.html

    Hm, I don't get it.

Why is the big fan? I am even now runnig all of them quiet at 1000rpm. No temp issues. Is i ran them at max then all temps drop under 40C even sub 36C. So no prob with that.

Also ran 8x390 with no extra Vchipset or LDT and no problems. So not the board or HTT...
I'm taking this baby to hell with 1.7V. If it is not stable I'm going chilled tomorrow, although 36C load with 1.65V is almost as chilled water...

Didn't know you had bigger fans.

So, 40-45 is too much you think?

Damn, gotta make some ice cubes tonight to test it! Well OK, doesn't hurt a try.

    @QuiteIce,

How high have you manage to push your 3500LL Pro and at what timings and voltage?

I have mine at 285Mhz 3-3-3-6,1/1,2.8v in Bios.

If i loose the timings to 3-4-4-8 push the voltage at 2.9,is worth it or i am going to have less performance because of the loosen timmings?

3-3-3-6 @ 285 MHz is practically the same as 3-4-4-8 @ 300 MHz... I've tried to tighten the timings, but it's impossible @ 300 MHz, not even when loosening anything else I seem to be able to tighten it.

The point is, bandwith and timings go hand in hand, but equals out after a point. 3-3-3-6 @285 MHz is good... my 3-4-4-8 @ 300 MHz gives me approx 40~41ns latency on the sticks and really nice bandwith aswell.. I imagine your bandwith is somewhat lower, but the low-low latency weighs up for it - main point is... 3-3-3-6 @ 285 MHz is nice enough And by the way... I had to go command rate 2T to be able to do it, are you are 1T? If so... nevermind clocking further, you are fine
