Yeah... but we can still tweak the LDT speed for this Barcelona processor with WPCREDIT Tool to increase it speed for better L3 cache performance.. i will write article how to speed it up...

meh....doubt you're going to see as much performance increase there as you think.

the reason why AMD didn't include HT3 on the Barcelona's is due to their feeling that it wouldn't increase system performance much AT ALL. now, that's the generalized opinion of a few of their engineers, so...ymmv but,, whatever.

if by "current" you mean Socket L1, then, yes, i think your overall performance will have a damper on it. If you mean Socket L1-SP, then, i think you'll be in much better position for next year.

Arghh... it cannot be set with WPCREDIT tools... The HT Link is preset from cold boot or warm boot... Anything written to Register will not take effect unless the link is disconnect LDTSTOP_L function... damn

Anyway you guys with barcelona can confirm you HT speed with this WPCREDIT tool...
The HT Link speed located at

    Processor node 0 = Bus#0 Device#24 Function#0
Offset 88h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 0
Offset A8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 1
Offset C8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 2
Offset E8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 3

    Processor node 1 = Bus#0 Device#25 Function#0
Offset 88h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 0
Offset A8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 1
Offset C8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 2
Offset E8h (32bit access mode) LDT Link 3

it is 4 bit register ... Register definition on attach picture
Now You Can verified Your HT Link Speed

    tictac,

you seen the pinout doc's for the processor yet?

i think there might be a way to do a BSEL mod (similar to the 5310/5320 FSB mod) to the processors.

i'll need to continue to research this but...could be possible.

Ok let me simplify this maybe I guess so I can understand this better!
Is a current Dual Socket F board with say 2 ~ 2220's going to be faster than a Dual Barcelona on the same board due to the memory latency with Barcelona due to Motherboard limitations?

If I elect to set up a Dual Socket F Super Micro Work station/ Server now instead of waiting for the new boards in half a year or longer will the 2 dual cores be better for my needs in over all speed currently?

depends on your workload and application set. i obviously have the opinion that a synchronously clocked MC is better than a down-clocked one, but...whatever. that's just a specs thing...

    I'd personally wait for B2s, but...that's me.

David, who has the split plane boards currently available that would house all of my hardware in my sig comfortably?

Less the RAM and Processor of course

Dave, only these two? Do you know it there is any expectation for a respin of the nvidia 3600 based ones but with only 8 memory slots (like 2912, 2927 and 2933)?

No those are not intended for my "home workstation", is for a small fac cluster.

This'll make Dave cringe, but here's one from Asus: ASUS KFSN4-DRE. Suppose to be split power plane enable. Uses the nvida 2200 pro chipset. 16 dimm total.

multiple years of dealing with them and their *ahem* support.

one of the most fascinating situations was when I called about a workstation board and they didn't even know it existed. at all. i told them it was sitting at my desk staring me right in the face and they claimed they didn't sell it.

    yeah...

with Tyan, I've got a FAE that helps me with critical accounts, a dedicated channel manager who secures my pricing, and a lot more leverage to get things done. Asus? not even close.

    cheers,

hehehe, that "unexistent MB" is almost legendary nalready.

Anyway: Dave, I meant if there is preview for a respin of those 8 memory slots only boards to provide split power and dual HT. Have you any info on this?

supposedly, Tyan has had good reports from folks using 2915s and B2s.

the 2915-E's will be coming (don't know when) and they'll be the split-plane dual HT variety.

based on demand, really. Tyan is willing to engage with a few more flexible options for what my customers want (the 2915, for example, which is still the de facto standard for Socket F board) than SM and their support (stateside) is consistently better.

additionally, I incure monetary penalties from SM for buying non-motherboards parts (which is ridiculous) and having them drop shipped (even though they're not supplying nearly enough hardware to the disties for them to actively stock them).

it's a pain in the ass, really, to deal with them in general.

AFIAK, the Tyan s3993 I was working with had dual power planes and HT3 capabilities. The only problem was that the options weren't available in bios. Seems as if AMD restricted access to those when they re-coded Tyan's original bios.
