I'm wondering about the Silverstone HDD rack...any chance of turning the HDD's around, using 90 degree sata cables, and making a hole for the sata/power cables to pass though it? Then have those run along the back rail. Might help hiding some wires.

The HDD rack is well built it is hard to describe but there is the shell that house the drives, then they have 2 metal panel that fit on the side and use rubber mounts..this panel is what you are placing the screws in.....

I did remove the stupid perforated panels behind the fan for better airflow..the fan is very quiet

Turn the HDDs around...that probably would work then you could run the cables through the bottom of the HDD rack ..Hmm
Damn you ..now I need to buy more cables...the power sata cable with our psu should fit through perforation in the bottom of the rack...hmm..looking at pics not sure if they will fit

still dont think there is a way for the dvdrw cables to pass ok...unless you modd the cage with holes...

    A hole saw works wonders

On the DVD cables...I'm wondering if they could snake up between the mounting panels and the body of the HDD cage. But that hole saw idea seems easier. If the drives are turned around in that cage, is there clearance for cables should they get routed there or would you have to move them back leaving them hanging out of the cage somewhat?

there is really no way for cables to go along the sides...

the pics I linked he has the perforated portion as the top...I turned mine the other way..simply becasue the fan wire has groove to pass through and preferred the wire on the bottom

I guess you could move the HDD back, turned around and make a small hole in the nonperforated top and maybe pass all the cables ...but from what I can tell the SATA power cables from the 620W are kinda short IMHO.....my Intel sata cables may not reach as well....

Well, if you want to mess with it, on mine the 2 DVD sata cables are 36" from svc.com (only place I could find black 36" 90's) The 2 HD's are 24" from the same place. The power cable going to the DVD's is a stock 620 cable, but you have to pull one of the mid-span connectors off and move it up as I did. The cable is at the very limits of length needed and to get 2 drives on it, you have to shuffle connectors (quick reference pic in sig).

Look at the top DVD, that's the end of the cable. The second DVD has a connector 1 inch below that on the power cable ribbon. That connecter's former location was further down the ribbon.

Pop the cap off, pull the connector off, figure out where you want it, spread the ribbon wires a bit, jam in wires back into the connector with a screwdriver, put cap back on.

Photos of connector disassembled and reassembled here. The hardest part is jamming the wires back in as you are cutting through the insulation anew, but it works out ok.

Are you really getting rid of it? That's too bad, my condolences, I hate when that happens. What are you going to use for a HDD cage?

also somehow my sata port 2 is bad on my mobo now????

I have some modders mesh coming next week....

Going to use MX2 and seem about getting my temps inline
