I'd really like to see how the IP35-E can handle a Kentsfield. Not being able to hit 500 with a Connie is no big deal for me (and besides, it could be the CPU, not the mobo hitting a wall), but I'd like to be able to get 450ish with a quad.

Don't think it's going to be a problem with a quad since the IP35 Pro and IP35-E share the same PWM IC and 4-phase circuit. The Pro has an additional ADI (analog device) IC for extreme overclocking above 500MHz FSB.

Quads tend to top-out around 3.4 to 3.5GHz because they run hotter (100C vs 85C Tjunction). My E4300 has a 100C Tjunction and it runs HOTTER than other E4300s by 10C. Fortunately, it also overclock well...3.47GHz at 1.465Vcore.

typo miss..., it's .rom instead of .b03

how did you modify the "RUNME.BAT"?...or...did you manually type it out for a DOS flash?...because...it should have worked with the "B03" extension...that is how i flashed the board.

no double boot problem that i know of...do you mean saving in the bios and exiting it shots down and starts back up?...that is normal.

Which board are you running? I have double boot problem with my IP35-E in WXP SP1/SP2 and Vista business.

E6320 and IP35-E Overclock

Managed to overclock an E6320 to 3.415GHz (488MHz FSB x 7 multi) with 1.51Vcore. NB, SB, and VTT were bumped up one notch to 1.29, 1.55, and 1.2375 respectively. Memory divider @ 1:1 with 5-4-4-9-2T timing.

Speedfan and CoreTemp 0.95 report 53C under Orthos Large mode (75F ambient). S&M shows 68C with 85C TJunction. The same program reports 100C TJunction on my E4300, which could explain why I'm seeing +14C under load with the 4300. 1M Super Pi time of 14.860 seconds. CPU will boot into Windows at 495MHz FSB x 6 multi, but it is not stable at this level of overclock. I suspect +500MHz FSB is possible with a better chip. My sample appears to have a 495MHz FSB wall.

1GB x 2 DDR2 800 Kingston ValueRAM. As you know, Kingston may use up to a dozen different chip vendors for their VR line. This pair is good up to 480MHz with 4-4-4-12-2T, and 540MHz with 5-5-5-18-2T (Vdimm @ 2.1). Nominal spec is 1.8V @ 5-5-5-18.

I strap a low speed 80 mm Panaflo next to my Big Typhoon to cool the RAM and nearby Northbridge. Just extra precaution during those hot summer days.

Please re-post if you plan to overclock your 6320. You'll need decent RAM if you want to break the 500MHz barrier.

At first i thought it was the usb pen flash did not work with this board.
i didn't use the runme, manually typed it in dos, don't know why it doesn't work with .b03, just tried with .rom when i was starting to think i'll have to unpack and clean an old floppy unit..

the only thing that i can think of is if you hit the letter "o" instead of the number "0"...possible, because i have done it!

looking at your posts, i've got similar results..able to achieve fsb 500, but rock-solid stability is found a little below when put it in case.
That's a new world for my kentsfield after been trying for weeks without success in my EVGA NF680 A1 and the damn fsb-hole issue. Months ago, with the DFI RD600 i suffered too with the GTL tweaks and could not pass 365 FSB

mmm...i remember some weird booting issues after placing by mistake my graphic card in the second pci-e slot, when i noticed it and changed the slot it disappeared.

That's one argument in favor of Pro vs E. Abit should be able to apply the Pro patch to E boards. Where are the Abit BIOS engineers?

I use both Asus and Abit P35s and neither does the start-up double pump...my DFI P965S was notorious for it. And for as much as I like the DFI board these 2 blow it away in both performance and ease of OC ability.

i should have been clearer about asus...i really wanted to say the asus 965 board double pumps when you overclock it.

Tried the July beta bios for the IP35 Pro, using a DOS bootable USB thumb drive.
My Samsung SATA DVD-RW vanished from Windows Device Manager.
Flashed back to the shipping bios, and the DVD-RW drive re-appeared.
I'll wait for an official Abit bios update before trying any more beta bioses.

atm I think that it affects the IP35-E & probably the IP35 too as apart from the ICH9/9R & the firewire th eboards appear identical & share a BIOS.
The older IB9 which the IP35-E basically replaces also has the double boot behaviour.
The Pro doesn't appear to do it.

A BIOS mod may fix the problem. I don't see the the lack of ICH9R southbridge as the root cause of the double boot found in IP35-E. Probably sloppy BIOS programming due to the IB9 legacy.

Ace-a-rue - the burst speed is miss-reported...can't have that high.

I'm allright with that, but what do you think is mis-reporting, I tried another piece of software but it comes up with similar results.
I've seen an improvement in HDD performance by clocking the PCI-e bus to 120, 125 and the board looses the ICH9R. If you think it is really being mis-reported, could you suggest some good programs for benching the hdd?

I was all set to buy this mobo until I read your feed back on the double boot issues. Alot of folks on abit forums have mentioned that also. I find it very anoying cause I'm Mr. Purrrrfect!!! I wounder if the Asus P5K Deluxe has the same issue???

The IP35 Pro doesn't have it (afaik) & it's still cheaper than the P5K Dl.

IP35 and IP35-E share the same BIOS. Therefore, your assesment is on target. The double boot issue adds about 12 seconds to my boot time. I'll give Abit 6 months to fix this issue.
