eek. That Coolaler link is showing the card running off of HYNIX ram. Is this going to be a problem performance wise? I thought the card was using tried and true Samsung.

It looks as if they removed the second fan connector as well.

While I can't say ALL the MSI graphics cards use hynnix, the ones that I have had in the past have all used hynnix. Its just what they choose to use, and does not affect other venders.

its hynix F1 (1.0ns/ rated 2Ghz)

same used in ALL X1950XT 256mb

that hynix 1.0ns on the Sapphire x1950xt i had run ~2100mhz @ stokvolts

How can you overclock the 2900XT while using the GameXsteam, which doesn't have the required (for overclocking) 8-pin plug?

An adapter plug takes care of that which might be and as far as I know is included with the retail package.

insane overclock to get a high score? Obviously this will improve with better drivers.

Well the 8 pin is supposed to be 150W, so 2 x 75w PCie 6 pin plugs. 3 in total to run the card.

Yes, but he claimed the GameXstream did it, and that only has 2x 6-pin plugs.

the pci-express slot itself supplies 75 watts itself so using the 225 watts with 2 notmal 6 pin pci-e cables in it should add up to 225 watt total

As far as rating of plugs, then 2 x molex is used for 1 x 6 pin PCIe.

the x2900 tested with gamexstream was with card on default

btw: the x2900 cards should came with 8 pin adaptor

It does add up to 225W, but they don't run right to the edge and use a tolerance.. The cards TDP is 225W.

So to overclock it needs the extra capacity of the 8 pin connector. 2x6 will run at stock.

No not the average, Intels are a bit short of maximum, maybe 10%. Neither are the maximum wattage a chip/card will draw in our world because we overclock/overvolt, taking them beyond TDP.

^^That graph shows only the inaccurate measurement on Xbitlab's side,nothing else(as for the higher than official TDP for AMD)

The TDP is just a design envelope indicating the upper thermal dissipation needed for a chip/card. Overclock or overvolt and it will move beyond this design envelope. That's my point. For Intel the main issue is when Tc >Tc-max. Take the C2D E6600 has a TDP of 65W, the same across the range except the 75W extreme versions. Its just a thermal generalization for the chip package, think about it, a 6300 should be lower than 6600, its not. Its really there for Engineers to design cooling solutions in the real world. Its not that accurate a reflection on maximum wattage. The Intel value is certainly not an average, more like the typical maximum (stock). AMD? Well its supposed to be the maximum (stock). If you're saying they under report it, I wouldn't know, its hard to measure. Theoretically if you ran identical systems the power delta should be the same as the TDP difference, but then you get into internal/external memory controllers and chipset efficiencies. I wouldn't place to much stock in charts.
