It doesn't sound so insane now at $850. (Did I just say that?)
that is why they name it ULTRA. ULTRA PRICE not ULTRA Performance. I thought you knew it.

Not that impressive for the pricetag, so who is going to be first to get one, we all know someone out there on XS will buy one , there always is.
I wanna see how far it can really go.

    They had this to say...

As such, the GeForce 8800 Ultra is nothing more than NVIDIA's answer to the market of making sure that it has a competitive product against the ATI's forthcoming volley (and perhaps keeping ATI in-check again). However, at the crazy US$829 or higher SRP, we really have no reasons for recommending the GeForce 8800 Ultra when a perfectly good 8800 GTX or even a pre-overclocked GeForce 8800 GTX at far more reasonable prices can meet up to this niche segment equally well.

    yeah, so?
I was talking about what most people will do.
    And your saying it yourself;

    "dual booting it for games"
in other words; you going to use vista for games..
why not bench on vista then???
you want them to bench on XP while you are using Vista for games? lol

And an emulated version of DX10 on XP will most likely be slower than "the real thing" on vista

like i said i would only be using vista for dx10 not dx9 games. so dx9 vista benches wouldn't mean as much to me since vista runs slower than xp atm and i don't play dx9 games on vista.

and i realize an emulated dx10 would be slower but i would like to see it anyways then comes the dual boot for dx10.

    Ok i got your point
but i think most people don't see any reason not to fully switch to vista.
And with some good drivers vista should be keeping up with XP. or even outperform it at times.

But let's get back on topic

Often, when reviewing hardware, it is difficult to draw a hard line and state with total confidence that our conclusions are the only logical ones that can be drawn from the facts. We try very hard to eliminate personal opinion from our reviews and provide readers with enough information to form their own well educated opinions. We try to point out the downsides of the best products out there, as well as the niche uses for which otherwise disappointing hardware might shine. So often our job is about balance and temperance.

But not this time: The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra is an utter waste of money.

    regards

    one question though,

    WHAT ABOUT OVERCLOCKING?

That is what most of us here at least want to see, is she sweet for OCing, or a Stingey biotch?

I love how they left out GTS...........:-( wanted to see the difference there.

8800Ultra for $830+ while 8800gtx cost few bucks over 500$. So you are spending 300$ for few extra FPS. Totally pointless.

    Overclocking:
We overclocked Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 Ultra using RivaTuner version 2.01, as we had a number of issues running Nvidia’s own nTune software with the new card – there were no overclocking options exposed to us in the control panel. After some trials and tribulations, we managed to get Nvidia’s new flagship card stable at 665MHz core and 1140MHz on the memory. Also, according to RivaTuner, the shader clock was running up somewhere close to 1620MHz – pretty impressive!
not very impressive, which was to be expected.
