It won't be that bad X(

It'll be enough to at least steal some press away from the R600 launch.

Geforce 8800 Ultra to go overclocked

    612 MHz is not enough

At least a few partners will overclock the Geforce 8800 Ultra. They are not happy with 612 MHz as the final core clock, as they expected much more.

XFX and EVGA are not happy with this speed, and they are currently shipping overclocked Geforce 8800 GTX cards that work at 630 and 626 MHz respectively. You can expect some even faster iteration of Geforce 8800 Ultra cards, at least from these two.

The first reviews of default clocked cards are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and these cards will work at 612 MHz / 2160 MHz and they will have faster memory speeds than overclocked 8800 GTX cards, but not faster GPU speeds.

Stay tuned for more information about the performance tomorrow.

wow i knew it core can be oc to 720 as some site mentioned, but still way too expansive

    wonder how much faster is 8800Ultra at max clock say .. 720 to 750 / 2300 vs 8800GTX 660/2200

so basically what you are getting is what the 8800GTX should have been from the start...? (i.e. good ram, good clockable core and good "circuit board")

    ... Nice one.............................. lols

no FSB is at 1600Mhz :S

EDIT - I just realised Nvidia has now also released a new DX10 graphics card before ATI has even got a single one out...

And that improvement is awful. 6 freaking frames?! And look at that horrid graph. The green is less than 1/3 the size of the pink one, yet the numbers indicate a 3% difference.... idiots..

    I second exceededgoku's notion...this is Nvidia's 5th model in its dx10 line up

However, if May 2nd was launch date for the ultra, then that would make this a soft launch as well.

but it's not "new". it's just another 8800gtx with a different cooler (about time!) and higher clocks.

Its called binning...if that was true, there would be no difference between the HD 2900 XT and XTX as well.

Better binning = higher clocks = higher OCs.

What was the difference between the 9800 pro and the 9800 XT again?

Seriously. The difference there I think was even less than when compared to this. XT's oc'ed about 20-30MHz better on the core, but most of that could have been attributed to their superior cooler.
    Formerly XIP, now just P.

So they go on to say that the Ultra can be overclocked to 720 which is a good 70MHz more than a typical GTX (can be OC'd) and at such clocks can outperform the GTX in some benches by as much as 30%.

It doesn't sound so insane now at $850. (Did I just say that?)
