Nice results! Can you somebody tell me for what is VID ? What does it tell? On my E6400 I have VID 1.3250V. Is that good, bad,...? Sorry for offtopic.

VID is the stock voltage that intel assigned for stock clocks. If yours is 1.3250v then if you set Vcore in bios to AUTO then the motherboard will read VID and use Vcore = 1.3250v.

well i guess 4GHz is a bit too much to ask from an 8x multi CPU ... but many E6600 cant even get 3.6GHz stable ...

Just want to find out if there is any difference between E6420 and E6600 coz my E6600 is just not good enough.

If that chip really have sooo much OC potential, I may want to make a swop for it.

Both e6420 and e6600 are based on the conroe core. There aren't any differences in featureset or anything. Just "binning" and different multiplier. What you're going on is the hope that the e6420's you can get a hold of are coming from better batches than the e6600's in supply at the moment. However, once e6600 supplies move to the same batch as the current e6420's, then there shouldn't be all too much difference, and theoretically, the e6600's should be better binned. So saying the e6420 is a better cpu than the e6600 is a complete fallacy.

That said, it looks like these e6420's we're seeing at launch are capable of roughly 3.5-3.6 with roughly 1.45-1.5ish volts. Not the greatest results, but better than a lot of what we've been seeing lately, and well welcomed, especially for the price it's coming at.

Seems pretty accurate... 3.68 ghz crunching for me @ 1.47v with Zalman 9700. Blew E6600 and E6700 I have had recently away.

Commando is also a pretty good board it seems.

My e6420 seems to only do 3.1ghz at 1.5v, what a crock of ####. Well at least my ballistix does DDR1050 @ 4-4-4.

I think the problem may be more related to my board than anything. Even when I drop the multi to 6x and try to go above 425 mhz the board wont even POST.

dont feel sad , cuz I got just about the same result as yours (also 44G), very stable @ 3.2ghz on my P5B-D (Orthos ran over 8 hours) . Anything higher than that will fail orthos after 5 minutes or less. Only thing I like this cpu is it's running very cool, other than that .. very dissappointed.

    Friggin G's

I decided to screw performance with this little beast so I clocked down to 3 GHZ with 1.45 set in the BIOS (1.36v LOAD) and I am passivly cooling with a Scythe Ninja, and two Scythe 800rpm case fans. 63 C load dual Prime 95.

My crucial Ballistix is at DDR1000 @ 4-4-4

What stepping is it? Curious because mine is supposed to be here Monday (ordered from CostCentral last Monday, shipped out of Tennessee) and I guess I am hoping it is not a 44G.

    It arrived today

Very surprized to see FEDEX truck here at 10AM...anyhow, I got one from the L644G465 batch. Right now it is runnig orthos blend at 375x8. Temps are ridiculously low at 40C with 1.4vcore. When I first booted this up BIOS indicated 9C and by the time I got into Windows at 1.25vcore coretemp read 14C.

For the hell of it I tried booting at 450x8 at 1.6vcore, NO DICE!!!

I am going to run at 3GHz orthos blend for a while and try again later.

EDIT:::the absolute best I can do is 3.24GHz at 1.475vcore. Any more voltage does nothing. 1.11GHz improvement is nothing to laugh at but still pales in comparison to my Xeon3060.

But so far the E6420 looks pretty good..

Can you guys in the US post where you are getting the cpus from (vendor) and from what location/warehouse they are shipping from (like was posted above)?

    Any info would be appreciated.

For that matter...no need to limit this to US buyers.
