R600 launch to be biggest in GPU history

CeBIT 007 65nm GPUs launch with almost 200 hacks

WITH SO MANY HACKS constantly talking to AMD's partners about the R600 and tapping in the dark about the launch, everything is at fever pitch in the press office.

But the details are as follows. AMD is preparing the biggest launch in history of graphics chips.

Since, we understand, the company pulled an unexpected move with a complete switch to a 65 nm process at TSMC, it seems that a new manufacturing alliance is emerging, since AMD is currently in various partnership deals with IBM and so Sony, Toshiba, Chartered, UMC and of course, TSMC.

AMD will probably ship well over 100 million 65 nanometre chips in 2007, and decided to start their own graphics adventure with a bang. We learned that the firm is inviting a ton of partners for a huge 3D-wide PR briefing - close to 200 journos will arrive at the press event and the plan is for each and every member of the press to get a taste of 65 nano chippery. ”

    R600 dissipates 200W+

CEBIT 2007: Its getting hot in here

R600 is hot and it is even hotter than anyone wants to admit. Last time I heard 175W number and G80 should be around 135W but R600 is hitting even more.

Our sources confirmed that the numbers are even higher than anyone expected as it dissapates 200W. The 9.5 inch cooler involves heat pipes, dual slot and the fan blows the air out.

The 12.5 inch R600 probably branded as Radeon X2900XTX is for the OEMs only, can probably last longer, and passes all the tests. 200W is almost two times of the Quad core or Athlon FX heat dissipation.

    G965 vs AMD 690

    Intel lost the HL2 coast

We had a chance to see AMD 690 chipset and DAAMIT decided to compare it versus G965. Intel machine was obviously slower. We saw Half Life 2 Lost cost running on both machines and you can clearly see that AMD can render things faster.

We were not surprised as we are comparing AMD latest chipset with Intels latest but outdated chipset. Intel is about to launch G33 that might give it a fighting chance.

On Intel G965 Intel lost its coast. It can not render water properly and AMD swears that it has the latest driver for Intel platform. Intel decided to back out from the booth and Cebit organizers made a big lake in Hall 2, just at the place where you would expect Intel.

Intel also has problems with Sims 2 and Movies game, casual gamers games. Everything runs significantly faster on AMD four pipe chipset.

That should prove that AMD is the smarter choice at least this is how it wants to get in the customers mind.

    ATI has RD790 chipset

    Samples up and running

ATI just launched its long awaited AMD 690 chipset but this one is the integrated one. There will be more chipsets and Rx790 series is already scheduled for later this year.

The good thing about this chipset is that it can and will support Barcelona kind of processors and especially Agena FX and similar products based on the native quad core.

It also has the edge as it can support multiple R600 cards and Quad FX. It comes with at least two PCIe 16X slots and two socket 1207+ and of course it supports Hypertransport 3 at much higher speeds. Of course it supports Crossfire.
