The last setting I tried to make was 400 1:1 5-5-5-15 normal memory, 2.1v. Haven't seen a post in over 7 hours now. This rev2 in the past tended to rebound from these problems better than the rev1 I had. But this time it was tragic. I pulled a stick of ram. Reset the cmos. Still no dice. Pulled the other stick. It beeps. Ok... so at least it's working enough to be able to beep memory error. Put the other stick in and try again. Nada. Computer just goes up and down and up and down, unless I hold the reset switch. Then it sticks on but doesn't do anything.

I powered the thing off for the night, but now it's morning and still no go. I've had just about all I can take. It's too bad I'm past my 30 days or else I'd rma the out of this thing. Maybe I'll follow dnottis and pickup a p5b.
The board is fine, the problem is memory voltage.
You need to get another stick of RAM, el-cheapo 256MB DDR2-400 is best, boot up, go into BIOS and bump up memory voltage a lot (mine works only on +0.7) then shut down and put your RAM back.

This can happen after you flash BIOS, it happened to my DS3 when I flashed to F10 - stupid post loop.
Worst thing is that before I flashed F10 my RAM worked fine with relatively low voltage (RAM is rated at 2.1v), not it needs +0.7v
Flashing old F6 BIOS didn't help

I got it up and running again just with more fiddling. The thing is though that spd is only programmed up to 667, which it can do fine at 1.8v, so it shouldn't be requiring the prevoltage to it.

Never, i've never been able to get past 450FSB..none of the bios thus far have allowed it. And TBH...i'd prefere things to get STABLE first before GB try and gain more FSB....stuff like USB issues and updating Intel bios ROM etc.

    Stable is what we want.

Just wanted to post about something interesting I've found. With all bioses up to F9, on my rev2 board, actual vdimm was about 0.1v higher than what I set in bios. It was fixed in F10 somehow and they became dead accurate, both by vcore2 readings in speedfan as well as dmm testing. I went back to f7 now since it's my best bios still, and I got the extra 0.1v gain again.

With my rev1 board, it wasn't affected. Seems a little weird that it's inconsistent like that. My rev1 board still was always 0.1v under spec... that is until I vdimm modded it to bring baseline to 2.0v

edit: also figured I'd point out that disabling c1e and eist shouldn't really do much to help overclocking really. I've found that it's onyl when you keep vcore at stock that c1e/eist will scale vcore down with load/multi. Once you tamper with vcore at all, it'll lock onto max value. This was tested with both f7/f10 and I'd imagine it'd be similar across all p965's. It still does however drop down multi to 6x under idle load, so I suppose it'd still help with idle temps and power consumption. So to all those out there, if you're paying for electricity or otherwise want to cool down idle temps, give turning on c1e/eist again to see if it's still a go.

Stock volts on my e6400 is real close to getting stability, but it's not. Requires 1.375v set volts. Maybe if I figured out vdroop mod for rev2 board, or if vcore mod via pin manipulation would result in proper downscaling, I'd be able to run "normal" vcore and have it scale down again. I noticed a real dramatic temp drop at idle with it functioning with stock vcore set in bios. At 3.2ghz and 1.375v set, I was seeing around 33'c idle. With it set to 1.325v and idle (which brings down to 2.4ghz (6x400) and 1.1ish volts), I was seeing roughly 24'c. Pretty good drop. Of course, load temps are the same since it goes back up to normal vcore and multi..

fyi, i seemed to have solved my cold boot problems with f8i by maxing out all voltages besides vcore of course. +.1 on pcie, +.3 on gmch and the others. i've been running my sig, 500x7 24/7 for a week or 2, no cold boots. temps only in low 30's idle with that. i'm now playing with 460x8, no cold boots yet. needs more volts, the highest 1.3xx before get to 1.4, but still only 40 C idle. if you're having cold boot issue, max your supplemental volts, and get F8i

    Congrats on your record

HamidFULL Please could you post your bios settings, and what bios are you running?

Im at a 490 fsb wall with the F3B bios, wondering what kind of settings you have to crack the big 500 fsb mark

    Thanks.

I have to try that out. I'm running F9 438x8 (other specs in sig. 'Main'). It has been running very stable for ages now, mostly on F8 and F8x's but recently has been giving me grief and finally unrecoverable cold boots with 'Wide Range Protection Error' and then booting with the backup bios.
I rewrote the BIOS (F9) and reset the same settings except this time trying 'Option 2' for that new memory setting. Since then, no issues.

So does option 2 for the memory setting seem to make a big difference in overclockability and stability?

Does anyone know if Newegg is clearing out all the ole rev 1s or if they are selling rev 2 yet?

I had one that would not hold the OC on a cold boot, but was 100% stable once running. I need more vdimm than 2.1v (P5B-E) and was thinking of trying another one if I could get a rev 2.

Does anyone here have a rev 2 that still has cold boot issues?

    thanks

    Congrats on your record
HamidFULL Please could you post your bios settings, and what bios are you running?
Im at a 490 fsb wall with the F3B bios, wondering what kind of settings you have to crack the big 500 fsb mark
Tanx I set Vcore to 1.425v NB +0.25v FSB +0.3v mem +0.2v all thing was with F5 BIOS but now I'm on F8 and again I can hit 500MHz FSB and also 520MHz FSB
I cant warranty this settings for you every PC have different behavior and 490MHz FSB is really high!

So does option 2 for the memory setting seem to make a big difference in overclockability and stability?
NO! "High Speed DRAM DLL Settings" Provides two different DRAM Timing configurations. If your system becomes unstable after you
overclock the DDR2 memory, select Option 1 or Option 2 to help make your system more stable

Anyone know what these 2 options do?
