    Opteron Monsters

Couple a days ago, I got two Opteron CPU’s from CABYE 0540 FPMW series, the best Opteron series ever.
Both Opterons are overclocking monsters. You’ll see way… My friend Optimus Prime got ‘’worse’’, I got ‘’better’’. The differences are almost academical.
It’s simple. The processors like these two, must stay in ‘’family circle’’, among the members of the secret order.

    Here are the system specs

    MB: DFI LanParty NF4 ULTRA-D
    CPU: AMD Opteron 146
    RAM: Geil Ultra-X 2*512MB BH-5
    GPU: Powercolor ATI X850XT
    PSU: Enermax 535W SLI

AMD K8 Box cooler (with stock thermal grease) & modded Hyper6 (with AS5) (http://xtremeoc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69)

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1

The point of this testing is to show the overclock capabilities at default voltage. All testings were conducted at DDR400 for RAM. ‘’Real’’ overclocking and testing will come in days which follows.

    Now the results

1.Here is the result of my Opteron 146, BOX cooled, with original AMD thermal grease, at +22 degree celcious room temp:

At +22C, there was no trouble booting to Windows at 3050 MHz, Vcore in BIOS set to default. CPU-Z shows 1.37V. I haven’t tried more than that. As you can see on the pic, at this temp and voltage, it was SuperPi 1M stable @ 3040 Mhz.

Next two pictures show what this CPU can do at +16 degrees room temp, default Vcore:

Finally, at +16C room temp, and Vcore of only 1.39V, it was SuperPi stable @ 3091 MHz.

As for the other CPU that my friend Optimus Prime bought, it has no problem booting to Windows at 3Ghz, 1.37V, and room temp of +17C, and it is SuperPi 1M stable at 3020Mhz, witch is less then my CPU, but it’s still amazing considering the circumstances, BOX cooler and all...

2.Here is what my CPU can do with with modded Hyper6 & AS5, at +23C room temp:

In order to check absolute stability of my Opteron, i decided to run Prime95 during the night. The test went from midnight, and the first picture (after about 2 hours) shows that there are no stability problems at 3Ghz 1.37 Vcore:

Because i get up early in the morning, i left Prime95 running whole night, and as you can see on the second picture, when i woke up, Prime95 was still running without any problems...Test was stopped after 6 hours and 42 minutes:

I knew that it was stable at 3GHz, so i raised the frequency to 3030 MHz (still on default Vcore) and i let Prime95 continue with torture, as you can see on the picture:

Somewhere around 13h i managed to skip work and come home to check that Prime95 was still running, because of the hot weather outside. I couldn’t believe that this CPU was capable of doing something like this, because of the rare examples of FX-57 that can run Prime95 on 3030 MHz 1.37V, air cooled, at room temp of +23C. But, when i turned up the monitor, Prime was still running! Of course, i had to take a shot of the screen with the thermometer included, witch shows the +23C room temp. After 6 hrs and 24 min, i stopped the test.

To sum up, after 13 hours of Prime95 torture, no signs of instability.
You may expect few days from now, of course, if I find DryIce, that I’ll post new results after DryIce session.

Nice clocks for a 146! And what do you mean 'if I find dry ice'? There should be no 'if'. The only 'if' is whether or not your Opty will like cold temps. If so, you've got a real winner.

Very nice! You are lucky, yours runs quite cool. Your first picture, idling at 29C on the boxed cooler! Amazing, with stock volts my 146 idles at 35C on the stock cooler, and i have applied it twice w/ perfect ASceramique application. I think my chip runs hot.

I think this was the best clock/volt ratio i was able to do on my 148

    but that's watercooled

Your chip seems very nice, give it some volts, take it past 3.2!

thats awesome, what batch # are they??? I have a CABYE 0540FPMW batch 0092..........I need 1.5v for 2.8ghz prime stable, and cant seem to get anything above that I know I dont have the best ocing rig(mainly mobo, psu and cooling), but it seems like my FPMW just isnt doin 3ghz stock voltage like all the others.......very nice chips you got there

Here, in Serbia is very hard to find DryIce. It’s only manufactured in chemical plant ‘’Azotara ‘’ Pancevo. Because that, I’m forced to make DryIce from CO2

Gigabyte mobos are NOT build for overclocking, that's definitely the reason
