And this card is supposed to be next-gen? My "last-gen" g92 GTS scores better in synthetic benchmarks and games. Dont get me wrong i aint no nvidia fanboi but this is dissapointing.

seem like only 1 card running

    2x 8800GT SLi @ 1680x1050 @ High settings @ DX9 = 28 fps (i think is only 1 card score)

    Your GTS wasn't $200

You can compare your GTS with the 4870 GDDR5, though

Does sound low, but I don't get why GPU-Z shows SLI enabled, so does control panel and everything else then .

Isn't 29 fps at 19x12 al high in crysis really good? am i missing something? the review posted by a magazine said the GTX 280 would run crysis at the same configs at 34 fps?

Review posted in the magazine is a load of crap, GTX 280 will be twice as fast as HD4850 at that res ( if not more )...

And i highly doubt that even the higher clocked and full of bandwith 4870 will score a lot better in games than a 4850. We have seen what a small jump it is from a 3850 to a 3870.
I really hoped i would switch this time back to the reds only too bad i wont.

your basing you opinion off of ATI's lower midrange card....even the 4870 will be a midrange card its going to be the 4870x2 thats going to be a high end card.

Im impressed anytime a new gen midrange card compares to a previous gen's performance card.

Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

Yup, fxvideocards is relatively new on the gpu scene but very excellent deals in general from a reputable vendor. And they were cool enough to provide Jim with this 4850 review sample...

Why is the writing on the core upside down? lol...

TBH I think it looks pretty good, if this is really what the 4850 performs like then the 4870 and 4870X2's will definitely be better!

Thanks buddy . This thread has been great so far. I just wish there was some way to clock up the card higher. I know it has lots more to give but the ccc lockdown at 700 is stopping me cold. DMM shows a little less than 1.2v under 3D load so even with just 1.35 like the 3870's this little puppy would fly.

I am searching the far east for overclocking utilities, my mandarin is a little rusty.

If I don't find one soon I will post up the 700mhz oc scores I have.

Looks like 4870 will be very similar to 3870X2 performance?
