NVIDIA to Launch GeForce 8600 Series on April 17th

NVIDIA to Launch GeForce 8600 Series on April 17th

NVIDIA is set to launch mainstream 8600GTS (G84-400) and 8600GT (G84-300) as well as 8500GT (G86-300) on 17th of April.

GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT will have 256MB GDDR3 memories onboard and sports 128-bit memory interface but no HDMI yet. GeForce 8600GTS is meant to replace 7950GT and 7900GS while 8600GT to replace 7600GT and 8500GT to replace 7600GS.

8600GTS will be clocked at 700MHz core / 2GHz memory and comes with dual D-DVI, HDTV, HDCP but requires external power. 8600GTS will be priced between US$199-$249.

Another mainstream model, the 8600GT will be clocked at 600MHz core / 1.4GHz memory and has 2 variants; one with HDCP (G84-300) and the other without (G84-305). This model doesn't requires an external power. 8600GT will be priced between US$149-$169.

The last model meant for budget segment is actually a G84 core but downgraded to meet the value segment pricing structure. The 8500GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 800MHz 256MB DDR2 memory and comes in 2 variants; one with HDCP (G86-300) and the other without HDCP (G86-305). 8500GT will be priced between US$79 to US$99.

Towards end of April, we can expect NVIDIA to release GeForce 8300GS for the budget market to replace 7300 series.

The NVIDIA 80nm G84 and G86 line-up will meet head on with ATi's DX10 65nm offerings where mainstream RV630 is slated to arrive in May and value RV610 is slated to arrive earlier in April.

the 8800 GTS 320mb is already at $280 it should come down to 250 by April.

I was hoping on there being a 512 version of the 8600, guess not.
I don't feel like this series' mid-range cards are going to take us
that far. All I want is a midrange card with more than 256mb vidram.
I say this without looking at benchies, strictly because of the same
    old 256mb standard. I want a DX10 card w/ more than 256 for $200
or less. I am gonna wait to see what AMD has to say about these.

There aren't many models,on G86 it's just 8500/8600GT/GTS,I don't think there will be a 8600ULTRA most likely it will be a 8900GS similar to 7900GS but it will take a while until is launched.
512GDDR is not a necessety for a card like 8600GTS,to use the full power of the 512GDDR you need to play the games at 1600+ with 2-4XAA/16AF HQ Textures at those settings the card will choke more than Eminem on his first performance.
Also the price will most likely not be 249$ more like 219$ or lower because at 250$ you will buy a 8800GTS that has 96 SP 320/320 and although it dosen't use 80nm and GDDR4 it will clock to 1800Mhz on mem and at those speed's it will most likely beat 8600GTS and by a noticeable margin.

am i the only one who thinks that they are complete idiots!!! they put a 128bit bus on it? why??? why are they so dumb!!!! with 2ghz of memory if they had a 256bit but they would be s much better. but i will most likely pick one up can you use evga step up form a 7series card to the 8 series? cuz i just got a 7600gt for my second rig that i could swap for a 8600gt

As expected, launch date around 20th April.

Bleh, I hope yet to see an affordable 256bit 512MB midrange DX10 card with preferable as low default clocks as possible.

I really hope there will be 8600 Ultra and that 8600 GTS isn't "that" card.

They're raping themselves as well as the customers right here... 256-bit can't POSSIBLY be that expensive to implement these days... 256-bit cards have been in market for 4 bloody years by now..
I'd gladly pay the extra 5$, if that would allow me to get 256-bit bus...
(Kinda like paying a hooker an extra 5$ and getting a blowjob as well.. It isn't much, but it adds much to the expirience)

I guess they didn' t make a 256bits version so they can separate the mid cards from de High one's.

But either way it should be has fast as some 7900 series , and if you think about it 7600gt has a 128bits bus and still has a great performance.

Problem is, High-end cards aren't 256-bit anymore.. They're moving to 384/512-bits, and then it would only be natural to move the mid-end to 256 don' ya thin'??
