MSI Neo2 Platinum and OCZ Powerstream

Hey guys - unfortunately, i got my FX55 and MSI Neo2 Plat. last week and i've been unable to use them yet due to my stupid OCZ PowerStream PSU. To make a long story short, i plugged my original one in, booted up a few times, then wouldn't boot up any more. I call OCZ, they dispatch me a new PSU thinking that this one just died. I get the new one, put it in, same exact problem. So now i'm thinking "Great, mobo or proc is dead" but no - i pull my friends PSU out of his computer and put it in mine, powers up like a charm, works great - i put my OCZ into his computer, it works...i don't understand, does OCZ only like Intel platforms? Either way, i'm getting yet another RMA from OCZ now because i didn't do this test before hand...but i went ahead and ordered an Enermax CoolerGiant 480w PSU as i hear they are good and have stable rails...anybody had any experience with these? Let me know...thanks!

I'm using an OCZ PowerStream 470 with my K8N Neo2 and I am having to issues. Just check and make sure that your rails are in spec, maybe the board has some weird over voltage protection.

There are loads in here using OCZs without any problems.

I read over here (OCZ support forums) about a few people finding some rails high from stock, so maybe the Neo2 has something like DoGMaN said. (weird over voltage protection)

    O'h look what I just found !

thanks for the reply's...split, that thing that you just found - that describes my exact problem - it worked for about 30 minutes then just poof - no more computer...but nothing changed between those times so i don't believe there to be any possibility of grounding...very strange stuff...i'm thinking maybe its bios is somewhat fubar'd or something..i'll try and flash it with a newer version...who knows, it might do the trick i hope...lol..thanks again for the help.

I wonder if the BIOS trats modded could be more fault tolerant.

You can find a few flashing tips here.
    arj found a shortcut.

Take the exact steps that you would do when you update through Live BIOS. The BIOS will be saved at Program Files>Setup Files>MSI-7025 v1.30. I renamed the 1.36 BIOS to 1.3 and paste it in there. The BIOS name would be something like xxxxxxx1.36 so I just rename it xxxxxxx1.30 before pasting it into the folder. After that I clicked next and MSI Live Update will do the flashing

    Same weird problems here guys!
DLT3C + NF7-S, plugged in the OCZ, worked great for half an hour, rebooted, and never opened again!. Mobo was toast (switched bios with another NF7-S with no results so it's NOT BIOS problem), tested cpu in another system and it's dead. ONLY these 2 were harmed. OCZ worked flawlessly on a friends Gigabyte+barton for a week or so, and is working flewlessly on a AN7+sempron for 1 week now. I am leaning towards blaiming the OCZ for this, cause the only two things that I did was to add some hyperX memory, and the 520 Powerstream. I haven't heard anyone toasting a cpu+mobo because of faulty ram so it must be the PSU... But then again.... it works fine so far....in 2 different systems... I can't RMA it, I am not sure it's faulty!! During the 30 minutes before the mob+cpu died I measured the lines with a polymeter during prime and they were steady as rock (all 3 with 0.1V up by default)
Thought I was the king of bad luck, but it seems others share my misfortune!!

The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everybody blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers."

Very strange - i'm 99.9% positive that my chip and mobo are fine, specifically because i can turn it on with another power supply and successfully load windows - thats sort of indicative of a working computer lol....either way..i tried flashing to the modded bios, and while its nice to have, it didn't fix the problem with booting with the OCZ...weird weird stuff...i just hope that the enermax i bought won't have this problem and i can start OC'ing this thing...lol...thanks for the help and support

Similar problem... however, power cycling do work on it (meaning turning all off... let psu drain, etc). This problem only happens with my OCZ out of 4 brand name PSU. But than this could be individual model issue.

Did you try adjusting the rails? In core cell my 3.3 line was reading 3.22 so i turned it up a notch to compensate. I started having problems with the computer not booting pluse the led on the back of the powerstream was in the red indicating it was over 3.3v. I'm starting to believe the voltage readings are as wacked as the temperature on this mobo. I'm idleing at 46'C cpu temp with my vapochill.

compare your corecell temps to your bios temps - i bet teh bios temps are lower!!

alternatively you can install mbm5 as it reports the same temps as the bios...

corecell was telling me i was idling @ 50C with watercooling and in the bios/mbm i was really idling @ 38c - pretty significant difference !!

Abit has actually had notes in bios releases regarding updated to provide PSU compatibility. As strange as it seems, The board could be at fault, and compatibility problems CAN be caused, and fixed via bios. Unfortunately MSI seems to have problems with releasing bios fixes so don't hold your breath if thats the problem.

Just to add, my OCZ PowerStream 520W works no problemo on both an IC7-MAX3/2.4C combo and an A7N8X/2500+ Barton combo.

I'm yet to test it with an A64 platform (still awaiting mobo & video card)...

Just received my Neo2 this evening and I am experiencing the exact same problem with a Thermaltake Silent power 480w PSU. The only way I can get the system to boot is to clear the CMOS... Haven't tried my enermax yet cause I don't feel like ripping apart my MachII Barton system

Just put together my FX-55/K8N Neo2 system within the last 24 hours.

Running 100% strong on an OCZ PowerStream 520W with absolutely no booting or 100% full load issues.

This is retarted.. ive modded my ocz520w so no warranty, So i may have to see if i can get my money back on this mobo.. i never liked msi anyways, but it looked like a decent mobo :\

interesting... i lowered the pots and it booted... so it does seem to be a high voltage issue...

    no problems here...
been running my msi with an ocz 520W without any probs.
    3.3V upto 3.8V, 5V standard at 5,5V and the 12V at 12,3V.
    Never a had any problems

i must say that i also shut down the psu when i shut down my pc,
maybe that prevents me from having problems?
