    CRYO-Z up close

    CRYO-Z up close

I wasn't sure if this is the right place for this, feel free to move it if the Mods wish.

So we start out with the shipping container that the units comes in. It’s very strong and has 4 straps that hold everything together.
All in all it appears to be packaged very well.

Next picture I have cut the straps and removed the outside box. There was stryo side panels inserted on all 4 sides and the top, these feel out when I pulled the box off.

And here are the styro panels

Now all the mounting pieces, foam, manual etc.

And finally the unit sitting on the table all unboxed.

There was some kind of glue or other material stick in the grills in a few places.

Now I have unscrewed that back screws, and pulled the top open. This is about as far as it can be opened without complete disassembly. Meaning that the suction line and insulation with evap at the end would need to be taken off to remove the whole top lid. Which is more than I wanted to do at this time.
So here is the left side of the unit.

    A few close up’s.

The controller board is mounted up in the top, not a very easy place to get to if any work has to be done with that.

Now we flip over to the right side and take a look at what’s there.

The evap, sorry it’s a bit blurry

There is a snap ring that comes right off so that the clam shell can be removed very easily.

Now this is the manual bag and mounting parts. This was not inside the box. In fact it was said that this was a major problem with the one they shipped before, that is there was no mounting parts in that unit. For some reason I believe that this was added later, again it appeared that the first units did not have this included. The other unit that they had also had this bag on the outside. They seemed very concerned that I made sure I had that bag.

Ok this unit appeared to be packed very well, it had no damage what so ever. The only blemish was the glue stuff on the front grill. Other than that it’s a very nice unit and seems in very good shape. OCZ did a great job of putting all this together, it seems very neat and well done. This unit is not light by any means so shipping it might costs a bit. The only drawback that I could see is if you do find another unit elsewhere be sure that it has the bag with manual and mounting materials. I am sure that this was brought to the attention of OCZ and was rectified.

As I have many other projects going on atm I will set this up later and review how everything goes with that.

The projected machine will be the one in my sig. Yes it is a QX9770. Now before I even start that I want to be clear that I will not be looking for a 2.0+ volt 5 bazillion ghz OC. Tho the condenser is much bigger than a chilly that I have seen before. I wish I knew what the Evap looked like inside, perhaps it’s just a chilly evap. May be Ryder would like to say what it is. I will let the others here with more experience in these builds say what they think about all this.

I would say so far, very nice job OZC, so far this looks great !

opps looks like I used a few images that I did not scale correctly, sorry about that. I can resize those if needed.

Am I wrong or is it only available from a few stores on the west coast? I'd pick one up myself if I could drive to a store in/near Minnesota

The case is really nice, but the copper works dont look very good to me. They even didnt clean off the flux so in a few weeks the copper lines will look like the roof of a 300 year old church...

But hey, its cheap and I am looking forward to the results. Does anyone own a OCZ and a load tester?

    Regards,

    Philipp

I would listen to vab206 and get that drier tilted before benching. When you tilt it, you ensure that pure liquid is going through the cap tube, and not a mix of gas/liquid.

It's a very common rule of thumb when using cap tube. Don't know what OCZ engineers have been thinken when designing this.

it shouldn't be a problem... not ideal for sure but i don't think you will notice it except perhaps longer startup

just looking around and found this think it has a Chilly evap

Not listed in OCZ’s official documentation is the fact that the Cryo-Z was designed in part by chilli1, a HVAC/R engineer who has become known in the computer enthusiast industry for making one-off and small scale production phase change components. The Cryo-Z uses an evaporator designed by chilli1 and it is considered by many to be superior to the evaporators used by other companies.

this is where got it from http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/132...ted/index.html

Depending on the subcooling, i'd say it will make a big difference.

It's like when you get flashgas to your TX (thermostatic expansion valve) valve, the performance drops alot.

This is because in phase change systems where you use synthetic refrigrerants, up to 40-50% of the refrigerant has evaporated just going through the pressure drop, this leaves 50-60% to evaporate in the evaporater.
Therefore you need to get pure liquid to you TX valve.

As long as this unit can hold E8500 5.2Ghz @ 1.7ish vcore and finished 3D'05,03 benches or 32m Spi m (with evap. temp. around -29ish C at peak load) then all is ok

Could only pray a phase unit so cheap becomes available in my country of residence i.e India, but I know that will only remain a dream...

HAHA well I wish I could, really, get more.

But with the stories of broken units and turned upside down shipments they would require another package to put the unit in to protect it, just to be sure it arrived safely. At least I think that.

Shipping stuff is beyond me as I am not a shipper or know anthing about doing that kind of stuff. The unit is like 50+ lbs so it's not light by any means.
