    Apogee GT- Bringing sexy back

Although I think the Apogee GT is a good looking block in its stock form, its mounting bracket just didn't match my aesthetic plan in my current build. I made this new one from .080" copper sheet today. I drilled the mounting holes and milled the inlet/outlet hole on the CNC mill, rounded the edges on the sander, and removed material from the sides with the floor punch. I filed out the punch and sanding marks, then polished with a buffing wheel and red rouge to remove the remainder of the marks. Then I brushed it with a scotch-brite pad, and gave it a quick spray of matte finish.

Might as well step it while I've got it apart

Don't you dare tell me not to lap my block... swiftech ain't got nothin'

    Yay

It would look absolutely awful in the build I am doing right now. Not to mention I have never been a big fan of the "swiss cheese" look caused by having 17 different mounting hole patterns on the same bracket. I much prefer interchangable socket specific brackets.

Copper (colored) barbs and black plate->block hex screws would make it even more sick

    Very nice looking indeed

(I do wonder if it'll be too soft though?)

Actually, I have some black pan head socket screws (same style as stock but black) on hand, I didn't even think about it but that may very well look better.

17C drop in temps from the bracket, maybe like 2-3C from stepping the base

My E7200 is actually a pretty flat chip, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

I build prototype electromechanical assemblies for aircraft/space, so machining is one of the facets of my job.

To answer you and Vapor above, I also was worried about the same thing. Luckily the copper scrap I had was fairly thick, almost the same as the stock bracket. Since it is rolled sheet, it is already slightly work hardened, and the distance from the supported area to the screw hole on the bracket is only .625". Now that I have it made it is actually quite sturdy; the bracket seems capable of more mounting pressure than I would feel comfortable with.

You gotta be kidding with the 17ºC drop just from changing the plate from stock to copper...gotta be kidding.
