8800GT's new stock cooler is cool n' quiet

the RPM change of the old fan.

the RPM change of the new fan.
The new cooler is impressive while it’s at full speed. From the chart seems only 2~3C difference to the ole one but please keep this in mind: the new fan have a more lower fan RPM. Just remember, set the fan to full speed while gaming and enjoy the low noise level of the new cooler.
If you want to purchase a 8800GT, just go for it. Because from now on, every reference 8800GT ship to retailer will equiped with the new cooler.

I've got a GT on order. Does this mean that it will have the new cooler?

takamishanoku,
If the retailer you bought it from is out of stock at the moment of placing the order then it's likely you'll get the new cooler.

yes the chart is somehow misleading. so please read the word below..
just to make sure turn on full speed while then you can enjoy the slient and 68+c cooling.
main problem is the old cooler is veryvery noisy, no one will enable full speed unless he want his ear bleed

Well it's a good decision by NVIDIA to implement a better fan, better performance for less noise is very welcome to the market. The old fan sure sucked.

an unneeded fantasy from nvidia again, a cooler must work at full speeds regardless the temps or noise level

noise is very subjective to be honest , i wonder if it is really quit at idle.
my 8800 gts @ 59 % (standaard) is quiet but not dead silent. Is it compareble to that ?

So I'm looking at 2 brand new 8800 GT's still in their boxes sitting next to me. I'm so upset right now I could just throw them out in the snow. What a joke! There better be a way for all of us current users to switch the cooler for free.

Uhhh Nvidia did nothing wrong with this upgrade. Just because you are an early adopter doesn't mean Nvidia needs to re-reimburse you or replace your 8800GT with the larger fan. You could always sell your 8800GT and buy a new one, but they aren't responsible for making sure you have their must up to date revisions of their cards.

I just called BFG, and as I expected, there's nothing they can do as far as getting me a new cooler. I might simply take it back to where I bought it, return it, and buy a new one.

well lets see, with my case closed my cards will freeze during normal gaming,They idle at 73c just in windows.
So I can't get nothing when they don't work as advertised?
The stock fan/heatsink is a joke for these and at least they did something about it for the next buyers.
when I up the fan speeds to 100% I can get them to 60c with the case closed and 50-53 with it open.

Same temps , less noise ( larger Fan )
maybe with this cooler we can set the Fan to a high speed without that horrible noise from the "old" cooler
regards

I think nVIDIA should have take a bigger step in replacing the GT cooler by a bigger and dual slot cooler

Um, there isn't much of a change performance wise... so i dunno why everyone is getting upset. I don't think that 'type of fan' is any quieter by just going to a slightly bigger fan @ a slightly lower rpm.
