Well after I have tried Nvidia chipset and hated its firewall and many other problems, now comes X38 for the win. Nvidia chipset never more.

Great choice, thats for sure. Nvidia chipsets sucks badly, on Intel platform at least.

The IX38MAX sure looks good, shame theres no DDR2 version and that the QuadGT uses monstrous passive cooling. Though I hope abit has chosen some other fan manufacturer, in the past their motherboards fan(s) crapped out after 3-5 months of use (namely KT7-series, AT7-series motherboards).

One additional PCI-E 1X slot would of been nice IMO, but if the price is right on the QuadGT it looks like a winner to me feature-wise. abit's really back? I sure hope so.

Plus abit seems to have come back a bit and is kicking ass again.

Even on their heatpipe boards (ie my aw9d-max) it's not as nutz as asus.

    Agreed.

Add the IC7-series to that list. Mine kicked out while waiting on my water blocks. Don't really care though, suckers still at 4ghz and going strong.

abit's really back? I sure hope so.
They've been back. Their 975x and p965 boards were very good, their 680i board was better then most non reference boards and you can't really blame them for the problems that hit all 680i boards.

    woudnt think so..

the Abit p35 boards are "cheap" compared to others like Asus, gigabyte or dfi..
some of the most extreme versions of the Asus x38 boards might pass the 400$ mark, the dfi one maybe too... but abit boards are rather cheap (relatively speaking).

Then again the abit 975x board sells for more then the asus now, and their 680i board sells for the same as asus, gigabyte, and dfi.

Their max versions are pricey but worth it.

There is always Asus with all their piping for you. Abit listened on their forums and we wanted no heatpipes because its a pain to water cool the NB without destroying the rest of the cooling for the SB and PWM. Im gonna remove the NB cooling as soon as I pull it out of the box. No whine for me.

I'd like to add a couple of things

    • The NB cooler is a solid cooper bottom and features a dual bearing fan for long life
    • The PWM heatsink will be supplied with hooks to allow a 40mm fan to be attached
    • There will be other cooling goodies supplied too
    • From what I've heard the digital PWM has been improved from previous versions

    looks good!

i have the abit ip35 pro and have enjoyed it immensely!

it's good to see them releasing a ddr2 version of this board as well in the quadgt.

but man, ddr3 will tough to hold out on with all these new boards coming out!

    edit:

it's also good to see so much space around the socket compared to the MSI and Asus boards that have been previewed so far... it'll make phase/dry ice/LN2 cooling much easier!

Great news! Sounds like this board is a winner. Looking forward to seeing some tests and impressions.

You might notice 3 physical x16 slots, although abit is not the only to do this. All the other previewed boards have been shown with 3 x16 slots. Trifire was mentioned as well.

i'll try to clear up the confusion here...
the Abit x38 Max board will have 3x Physical x16 Slots, with 2 of them being x16 electrically and one being x4 electrically.

I must say I really enjoy my Abit IP35 Pro and its a shame that one of my USB ports died and it emits a very high pitch frequency sound and I have to send it back to the egg and don't have time to wait on a RMA exchange because I really do like the board allot minus the Vdroop situation its a superb product and like I said its a shame I don't have the time to wait and do the exchange deal it really is!
