Badge hunting for both hpf2 and gfam. efficiency drive.

An outsiders viewpoint: this is not very efficient just now so I will ask:

    1. what is the predicted end date for each project?

    2. who needs help and for what badge and how many days short are you and which project?

    3. who is already or can offer cores and how many? (please state rig type ie number of cores/threads)

Please answer even if you are already getting or giving help

it is 3am here and I have just started leak testing the new rig so i will gather answers in the morning.... need sleep

    I have under my account
    *12c opteron 2419
    *laptop 1 - 2c/4t i5
    *laptop 2 - 2c/4t i3
    *yojimbo197 4c q9550
    *bluestang's 4c q6600

    thats 28threads

I've got currently (y:d:h:m:s) 1:129:17:16:39 on GFAM - so 240day deficit with around 8 days worth of WUs remaining. Second laptop is a cheapo and wont run 24/7 so im not 100% sure that i'll make it.

I have my badges already, but would like to make it to 3 years run time on GFAM too. With the rigs I have crunching for me at the moment I should just make it.

I have two 8 thread rigs crunching HPF2 for others (Bluestang and Jeanguy2)
Once those are finished I could help others too. But I'm not sure there will be many days left by than.

    anubis:

you say around 8 days left for GFAM so lets play safe and say 6

You should have cache set for >8 days but we will call that 7 (for safety)

so you have 13 days of work available in which to get 240 days crunching done.

around 18.3 cores crunching for those 13 days should do it so say 20 cores with a good margin of safety for this too.

with your helpers you have 24 cores running plus the 2nd laptop. so provided you have an 8 day cache set on the profile that these machines are running on you will get you badge with no problems.

In fact you could possibly allow one of your helpers to jump to another who needs help provided you run the second laptop 12 hours or 24 on 2 cores.... again as a precautionary measure.

With the cores you have running right now and ignoring the 2nd laptop you will badge in 10 days time

    EVERYBODY:

    Remember,

    1. you can think of your cache as well when calculating for badges so today there are probably 16 days of work available.

    2. If you want to play safe then knock a few off of that total ....3 or 4 should be plenty.

I have currently 20c full at GFAM, +2c partially (notebook), caches set to 10 days (=WU deadline).
    My current GFAM status is 309 days. So 20c * (7+10) = 340. 340+309 = 649. Then add a few days from the notebook (~10), I guess I'll miss sapphire by ~50-70 days...
Anyway, still hoping to achieve this by myself

Why don't you switch that 8 thread rig over to Mumak for his GFAM Sapphire. There is more HPF2 days left (~14) than GFAM (~7).

I just hit 1 year on HPF2, and I'm at 181 days for GFAM. I'm dedicating 12 cores until the project ends, but I might come up short. If anyone wants to join me on my badge hunting expedition , my weak key is 681782_2df3fe53ee2df6da1a8c26b35b2a859a .

Thanks guys, it seems I won't make that myself. I have some DevKits based on Atoms and Arrandale, but that are not good crunchers

You can switch that 8 thread rig you lent me over to 1.S for his HPF2 & GFAM Sapphire quest. I will still be able to reach my GFAM and HPF2 sapphire goals with the massive help that XS_Fallwind is providing to me.

I always wondered what 100 crunching cores would do for runtime. Got the answer now: 110 runtime/days - 55 days GFAM and 55 days HPF2. Plus 82K BOINC PPD... and sitting next to Sam at the daily pie table.

Thanks you Rob, your help is much appreciated...!!!

Clearing out my current cpu cache so I can help out. Its only 3 threads (4th for POEM gpu) but it all adds up, yes? Should have it cleared tomorrow. A10 @ 4ghz.

I put my 3770 on Mumak's account and the 2600k is now working for One.shot. Both since this morning and crunching for 8 hours now.

Mumak and One.shot, keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks! Your simracingmedia2 machine is working, results are being returned (most are PV yet).
How large have you set the cache?
My current GFAM runtime is 0:331. Crossing fingers

No problem. Glad I can help. And as long as the work is being done, I don't really mind if it is on my account or not. Just has to be for the team.

Cache is set to 1+7 days. At the monent there are just over 300 wu's in the cache and that should be around 54 days.

I'm currently @ 0:344. With my 20+2 cores + Rob's help maybe I can make it for sapphire, but not sure yet. Maybe another small push would make it for sure But if there's anyone else needing help, just help him in first place.

I set up the i5 system for One Shot, but its not getting any tasks, even after updating and restarting the computer and BOINC.

I tried setting up my other Linux box for Mumak, but it isn't adding his account.

Does it show his name under "account" on the Projects tab?
Maybe it isn't getting any work as it is seen a new cruncher for WCG after changing accounts.

Can't really help with Linux. Haven't used it in a while. Only got one Linux rig running, but on my own account.

Yojimbo : Look at the BOINC log for that rig and see if it has any info as to why it is not fetching new work and for what WCG project.. Ask 1.S to look at your rig on his WCG profile and insure that it shows up and is assigned the proper device profile for the intended badge chasing?

Rob_B : Did you mentioned to me before that you had to set your lending rig profile to "Default" for the device transfer to work...???
