I've read good things about it, though most prefer the 2Gb version. I use this chart for rough comparisons, though I'm sure Xtremer's will have different opinions:

My XFX 7850 runs great ... I cranked the volts up to the max and my stable GPU is at 1325 ... gets about 75K BOINC points per day and runs cool.
When I added a 7770 to the same rig (i7-920 C0 @ 3.8) it bumped me up close to another 50K. Those are rough approximation numbers as I quit tracking every runtime of every WU quite some time ago.
if budget is a concern you can't go wrong with 7770 and you don;t have to worry about holding an expensive card if gpu really does dry up in a couple of months.
newegg 7770 USD 94.99 AR ... you can't up the volts on this model but I am currently WCG gpu stable at 1175 running stock volts

You can with Trixx
I have that exact same Model and thought that as well. Installed Trixx and upped volts to 1.250 from stock 1.20 and HWiNFO still showed GPU VDDC of 1.20. Fired up GPU-Z and sensor showed VDDC of 1.250. It may look like volts don't change, but they do. So now I am at 1200 on the core@ 1.275v in Trixx running 8 WU's.

I'm getting screwed then with my 7950 at 1100 gpu + an ati 5850 doing only 80k boinc a day... and not even that.My XFX 7850 runs great ... I cranked the volts up to the max and my stable GPU is at 1325 ... gets about 75K BOINC points per day and runs cool.
The 5850 alone does 15000...
That pair, both overclocked, in a fast 2600K rig got me around 150K boinc per day. run a bit slower I would still expect to get 135K.

Yeah I think I'm gonna buy a new CPU/motherboard/memory and put the 7950 on it alone.. A 3770k with 8 gig DDR-1866 should be enough right?
Just for example, it takes me about 10 minutes for each WU (with the 7950 at 1100mhz) with 12 running at the same time or let's say 12WU takes about 11 minutes... so 0.9 minute/WU... what are your times?
I've tried overclocking the cpu more but it keeps giving me BSODs... the CPU is only at 45C at full load... I think it's the motherboard being too hot (58C+ at full load) crashing things.

VDDC will remain at 1.2. However, in HWiNFO you should see an additional GPU sensor, which will report the real GPU voltage.
This is similar to CPU VID/VR VOUT/Vcore -- GPU VDDC is what the GPU requests/"thinks it gets", and "GPU VRM Voltage" is what it really gets from VRM.
Nope, no such other sensors...

I've up my memory speed to 1600 and reduced the number of WUs to 10 per gpu... we'll see.
May I suggest that if you are running both cards you try to just run enough wu's on the 5870 to approximately match the runtimes of the wu's on the 7950. I think I had something like 16 and 10-11 mins on the 7950 and 5 or 6 wu's running on the 5870 in around 11-12 mins. You will need to try for yourself because these numbers remembered may be wrong.
Can you get a fan pointed at your motherboard heatsinks and ram?

Wouldn't that load the CPU even more creating a bottleneck?May I suggest that if you are running both cards you try to just run enough wu's on the 5870 to approximately match the runtimes of the wu's on the 7950
Not really. Can you get a fan pointed at your motherboard heatsinks and ram?
I am not suggesting you use those numbers of wu's rather that you balance the 2 gpu's. It may be that for you 10 and 3 works best for example. This q6600 @ 3.3 seems to be able to handle around 90-100K ppd so I am thinking you may be able to tweak your Phenom X6 1100T running faster and having 2 more cores to get more than this. If you were to start with 10 and 2 it would be 1/2 a core for each which should be ok. look at the completion times for each card and see whether it is maybe possible to add an extra concurrent wu. Play around with the app config till you find a good balance which also does not lose its separation too quickly.
Once you get a 3770K running things will be sweet using this method, till then just have a play![]()

We only have about 2 months and a half to get a big gap between us and IBM before it goes back to CPU crunching only and we get out butts kicked...
How much do we do only CPU?? 20 million maximum?
