Just keeping this GTX680 hardware talk out of KGB thread

btw i uninstalled all MSI AB and reg keys and also Xtreme Tuner and re installed Xtreme Tuner and works as a charm now i can give +40mv to mem so far aint stable at +800 maybe due to high clocks
Yep, sounded like that's could have been what was happening. I tested and my mem at stock (+0 mv) is 1.59v. Not sure if this is the same with all lightnings - can someone comment on that? I have tried 3 now and they all hit over +700 mem stock.

My last card is the best though, +750 BF3/everything stable, I will do some comparisons to show what it's gaining over stock & the common 7GHz mem freq. Probably going to be more in games where mem is loaded hard like Crysis.

Just an update where I'm at. I took my problematic 1st card back (came with a locked F8 bios on LN2 mode that artifacted badly in 2D mode - had to flash 3A onto it myself to fix it) and swapped it out with another. It was better, managed 1241/+700 core game stable stock and with bios unlocked with KGB giving 1.24v load was 1267/+700 heaven/BF3 stable. I considered my options then picked up a second lightning, this one is a keeper. 1280/+750 heaven/BF3 stable and very close to 1293 stable at same voltage. When my water block arrives I'm pretty sure it will do 1293/+750 rock solid @ 1.24v. Temps now are at ~63*C core/~65*C mem/67*C vrm loaded with ~30degC ambient summer temp and that was with 65% fan (loud!). Testing this card on air reminded me why I watercool. That said with 2 nice examples here it's tempting to just throw them both in SLI and run them stock with brutal FPS in everything

this is great Cryp 1320 / +700 game stable is beastly i think that i can go till 1,3 on air and get close to 1400 but i will stop here

ur card seems to have better mem than mine

    Cheers !!!

    I've got 2 680 Lightnings and I can't even get +200 Mhz on the memory, but I do get a 1400 core on the LN2 BIOS. With this I was able to break 20k in 3DMark11 (P) score using a 3930K @ 4.8.

I threw some waterblocks on them, so the memory doesn't even hit 55 degrees celsius yet refuses to go over 200 Mhz above stock.

1400 core on what volatge? That's impressive. Its all luck of the draw annoyingly I've never had a great golden gfx card GPU but have had a few with 'golden' mem.

So its been really hot here, it was 41.5*C today (105 F) and I am considering running SLi 680's aircooled :/ Some have said they were holding temps in the 60's but have any of you been through really hot days with your setups? If so how'd they go?

I've got them watercooled and on Aircon, so they hit like 34 degees celsius under load.

But then, my nipples get hard so I guess it's working?

Power Limit is like 275% Max, +100 MV and Mem clock is +200. Core voltage is +93 from Afterburner 2.2.3.

    <Edit> I spelt voltage wrong>

What are people thinking re: 700 series? How much of an improvement over the 600 series are we really looking at? I am tempted to run SLI 680 lightnings, but don't want to spend the extra cash if in 6 months a 700 series is available with ~30+ % more performance. No one seems to know what the 700 series will bring to the table unless I'm reading the wrong things. What do you guys think?

There is always a new product coming out, live for now, not for then. Life is to short.

I know that's the default response. I was asking more does anyone have anything firm(ish) about the performance of the 700 series?

Forking out the 'flagship' cash for 2 cards card that was never meant to be the flagship is pretty tough to do, one was hard enough: http://www.techpowerup.com/162901/Di...X-670-Ti-.html

1400 core with the LN2 switch +100mv in AB 2.2.3.

Nice score for a single card above!

Nah it's only numbers I'm just seeing what difference overclocking the card alone makes. I've looked in game and I'm really seeing no difference in playability overclocked vs stock. The difference is something like 64 FPS vs 69 FPS in BF3 neither of which I can distinguish from one another based on 'feel'.

I have my second card coming from RMA, haven't even got to use it in SLI yet but I'm wondering if it's even worth it anymore. I get min FPS of ~44 in heavy scenes in BF3 with everything maxed except MSAA (running 2x) at 2560x1600 with a single 680. Average is between 60 and 75 FPS from what I've noticed. I have blocks coming and the rest of my rig is watecooled but given the expense of the setup and the discussion surrounding just how much better the 700 series is likely to be in 6 months time, I'm questioning investing so much in the 600 series. Especially if you consider it's likely the 680's were meant to be 670 Ti's....If they have just sandbagged the GK110 for the 700 series and it is 25-30% faster with a 384bit mem bus then it will be hard to stay on the 600 series without getting upgraditis.

Taught myself a bit of hex real quick and modified my BIOS with a hex editor and changed P0 voltage, P0 base clock, P0 boost clock, and Mem freq. Hex is hard lol. Still not perfect I need to make a couple changes and trying to figure out how.

Final version custom air bios. I have 2 higher clock water bioses too for when my block gets here

100% Power target increased to 250w (power slider can stay on 100% now still have 9% TDP to spare)
    Max board power still 300w
    Base clock: 1202
    Boost clock: 1267
    Max boost clock: 1280
    Mem freq: 1856 (3712 or 7424 Effective)
vgpu: 1,2125v (1,24v real measured with DMM)

testing with kombustor to verify max boost and TDP

on stock clocks and +600 mem
the cards stock turbo to 1293

its a pity that they run perfect 3DM11 at 1320 / +700 but not heaven

i will not stop till i find a way to unlock volts till 1,3 cards have some #$"#$"#$"# protection over 1,245

^Damn Serg, my is weak compared to that

Had to return my first lightning and had bought a second, got first cards RMA back today. Its a little better, 1280 everything stable @ 1.245-1.255v load, almost 1293 everything stable at this voltage, might do it on water. However it has freak mem. +908 everything stable at stock mem voltage.

Test in kombustor for quick ballpark. Starts to artifact at +950, fine at +925..........this is testing +908

So I tried gaming at +900 thinking it would crash. It didn't. Even turned fan to auto to heat it up and it was still stable:

    So that's 1956 Mhz or 7824 MHz effective and 250 GB/s

Yeah I was surprised, kept expecting it to crash/artifact/lock and it just kept going. Not sure if it's the mem controller or actual ram chips limiting clocks. I have noticed the guys that have the supoer high clocking gpu's usually have lower clocking mem. Not sure if that's a pattern or just coincidence in the examples I've seen. My gpu's aren't brilliant but are quite respectable and above average but the mem is great. Be interesting to see how much core speed the added mem speed makes up for. Would be application/game dependent of course.

Mem starts to artifact really lightly in kombustor at ~ +950-975. So I added +10mv playing around and it stabilized it, pushed a little further and +1000 stable in kombustor. 4011 MHz or 8022 MHz effective pushing 256.8 GB/s

Card is pulling very close to 250w in this test it's actually throttling down the boost to reign it in.

    Turned the CPU up to 4.4GHz, Core = 1359 MHz / Mem = +900
