I have a lightning. if you unlock the non-LN2 bios its 1.2125v max the only way anyone's getting more is using AB 2.2.3 which works in an odd way giving you only one chance to accurately adjust a voltage offset (only after a clean boot). This is fine if you want to run benchies but for normal use it's insufferable. I don't want to push much harder than ~1.24v anyway, when my full cover block arrives, I think I'll be ~1293 and +750 mem BF3 & everything else stable which is plenty for my needs (currently at 1280/+750 stable on air).

Yea that's what I was using on my Galaxy 680 was the Lightning BIOS and AB. Mine adjusted to 1.25 max. I got bored one day and pushed it to 1.3 with a hexeditor and hit 1400 on air, temps were 73. My stable at 1.25 was 1350 with the current beta drivers at the time. This was July so it was 306 I believe. Day one for my card was stable at 1340 stock on 301, which crawled down with each driver release which is the trend with Nvidia lately. I really am pissed I made a user error with that card and shorted it. It was such a good chip.

So are you saying you edited the bios, reflashed it and got 1.30v? Or did you use AB to push further? I can use AB in addition to the mod bios for ~1.36v max. Sucks you lost the card what did you short it out with a dmm probe or something? Ive come so close to doing that a couple times (not with this card)

No I used the factory Lightning LN2 BIOS, the one before they nerfed it, and flashed my card. That gave me, in AB's eyes, a Lightning. I had full voltage control to the 1.3 limit, though mine was limited to 1.25 under load mostly due to the card not being an actual Lightning but I had full working voltage control including memory and PLL which was actually working. The hexedit was a mod found a little bit later that allowed Lightning owners, and the rare group of us SOC owners, to basically set the voltage to whatever we wished per PC cycle (wasn't permanent it reset after you shut down). I really want to get another one of those cards but they are all refurbs. I basically became friends with the galaxy tech support because I was a pioneer of doing this so I had all the ins about it, was awesome. But yea I blew it with the DMM. I was so pissed. I just got the thing and was tired of sitting and probing while the tests ran so I set it up but the probe fell. Seriously made me so upset.

What's so bad about the refurbs are they substandard or just not a perfect new card to you psychologically? What are they worth? By the look/specs of the VRM it should handle over 1.25v whats the cause of that limitation do you know?

My thoughts it was just a limitation of the smbus and many variables of the BIOS trying to interact with non OEM hardware. And nothing really is wrong with the refurbs honestly I just don't wish to get one I would rather just spend the money on a Lightning. I was hoping to see a Lightning Xtreme variant by now but I guess not. I have a 4GB Galaxy 680 right now and I really love the extra VRAM. I want to go to 1440p just because I can keep the pixel density but up the size, which that's all the difference in resolution is anyway, 1600 being the least dense. I have an Acer 23.5 3D that I really find lackluster in image quality so I'm really looking to upgrade. I tried selling it with the 3D kit for a while but nothing came of it so oh well. I do a lot of photo editing and media viewing so I love having rich colors and crisp images. I wasn't thinking about any of that when I got this monitor.

No prob mate, sick cards you have there The unlock was easy but your cards bios is different I think due to the very high bin chip and the way it's set up from factory(1202 base/1267 boost) but as you know they boost to 1293 stock - when unlocked max boost of 1399 is enabled which is a little high for air cooling. DICE or cascade maybe

Anyway, KGB is awesome and I have seen hinted that base clock, mem clock and as we know already boost clock might be configurable soon These cards REALLY needed something like this. Thanks crazynuts you have given us the green light to enjoy our purchases the xtreme way

Quite possibly yes, a mate was using a lightning mod bios and could not properly control the card either. I actually tried a SOC bios I unlocked on my lightning and it worked but my screen res was 1920x instead of 2560x1600 and though it was on HDMI rather than digital O.o Strange issue to have but there seems just enough to work but not work. Asus DCII bios artifacts during post, as does your galaxy bios and some evga's. I have found the stock KGB-unlocked bios is the best for the lightning, will be perfect when we can control base/mem/boost as well as voltage.

i agree Crazyn has given us the key to enjoy

cant wait the turbo boost cap

btw i uninstalled all MSI AB and reg keys and also Xtreme Tuner and re installed Xtreme Tuner and works as a charm now i can give +40mv to mem so far aint stable at +800 maybe due to high clocks

    Hi,

I registered here because I think here are the people that can answer my question.

I have a Geforce 660 TI from Gigabyte with the OC Bios. The card Boosts to 1241 Mhz on Stock Settings (Power Target 100%) and Voltage up to 1.175 V with most Games/Benchmakrs. For testing I choose to turn off vsync to stress the card as much as possible.

    What I experienced:

    - When I increase the power target to 113% on some games/benchmarks the power consumtion of the card (reading in evga precision-x) increases to up about 110%. But the Boost speed stays at 1241 Mhz and the voltage stays at 1.175 Volts.
Why is the power consumtion of the card bigger if the voltage and the Boost Speed stays the same anyway? I can't understand that. I thought that a higher Power Target increases the voltage and increases the clock. But it doesn't seem to do that. What is the reason for the increased power consumtion, what does the card do internally to consume m?

Please help me out and explain me what the Power Target exactly changes.

measure with a Digital Multimeter and you will see that those 1,175 are really more volts...the tool here is very nice for unlocking some extra volts and gain some more clocks use it and you will be surprised

Not quite correct its more about being able to keep the high clocks,

For example with a higher power target your card will be able to keep running at 1.175v 1241mhz for longer even when stressed out in benchmark.

If you have a lower power target when your card gets stressed in benchmark it will actually lower the voltage and clock speed.

    msi 660ti voltage control

I just been reading some of you that have flashed new bios still have voltage control.

I have the msi 660ti power edition that has voltage control on core memory and aux.

Since I changed to 1.2v bios the voltage control only seem able to turn voltage down and not increase voltage. Is this norml.

If its hardware limited to 1.2v yes. If you were previously at 1.15 with stock bios you could then increase it via SW to eg 1.20v but now with mod bios you cant turn it up over its max regardless of what method you use.

    max load i saw 1,245
unigine heaven is bad ass to pass at 1320

on heavy games like HITMAN ABSOLUTION and FAR CRY 3 all maxed i saw 1,215 and so but they use 1320 core

Hmmm I can pass unigine at 1306 but it gets sketchy over that and is sensitive to mem freq. I want to get this card on water and see what happens then. I can't OC in this heat it hits 73*C on auto fan real fast. Running 50%+ fan is annoying I'm used to a quiet watercooled rig.

yes after i posted i realized that is mem sensitive...but while i can game 3DM11 and furmark at 1320 i dont care

Crazynuts - there are 2 bytes of hex that control base clock and boost freq. For example FC 08 = 1150 MHz and 79 08 = 1085 MHz. What would I put if I wanted 1. 1254 MHz and 2. 1241 MHz?

You also mentioned that you also found the location for 'max boost freq' - when looking at bios in hex editor what is the offset and colums of this max boost value?
