Holding back what? A monolithic die that they can't mass produce? It seems like they are just taking care of their issues with GK104 production and they still haven't rolled out the rest of the lineup. Most of their money is made from the sub-$200 cards that they haven't released.

So lets imagine, tomorrow, AMD release a HD8000 who will not wait so fast, with +50% performance vs the 7970-680 ( pure non credible non number, but just for serve the purpose )..
Nvidia is able to release the GK110 the day after ? ..

Lol if it was the case, the GK110 will have been released at the same time of the K20. the K10, just for computing use, HPC; Tesla .. Cause you can play with your gaming consumers, but not with the professional who was waiting a Kepler made for computing. Specially with the promise of their DP strategy increase ( the nice graph we see again and again ).

    Good times
Other than the fact that they are? Remember what NVidia said when they showed off the K20 and were asked when we'd see GK110 in the desktop space?

"When AMD are able to make us do so".

NVidia are making insane profit margins with the way they have everything laid out and they are STILL outselling their competitors. Only a fool would cannibalize their own sales by releasing a lower margin part unless they absolutely had to. AMD literally are having a hard enough time dealing with NVidia's mid-range kepler, after all.

The obvious reason they haven't released the rest of their line-up, clearing out stock of their previous parts. I hate when companies delay new parts specifically for that reason, but I think it's clear as day in this case that that's what is going on here.

Am I happy about how this is all working? No. I prefer strong competition.
