Following further testing I have some more information on the problem.

Using a an ESATA to SATA adapter cable I attempted to connect the HDD docks directly to the mobo SATA ports(both blue and grey). The drives remained undetected. but POST and boot became very slow. Clearly the controller sensed a connection else the POST behaviour would not have changed, still communication was not established.

With the same adapter cable I then connected a variety of HDDs as well a an optical drive to the ESATA ports. The drives weren't detected.

Encouraged by the implications of a slow POST I borrowed an OCZ Throttle ESATA flash drive. The Throttle worked perfectly connected directly to the ESATA port or to the adapter cable plugged into either set of SATA ports.

    Edit:

I am convinced this is a firmware issue as the hardware has been exonerated.

I seem to be running into some compatibility issues.

Deprived of ESATA I figured I could transfer files via USB 3.0 however my Coolermaster USB3.0 frontpanel connector(RA-USB-3035-IN) yeilds only USB2.0 transfer speeds connected to the P8Z77-I Deluxe I'll try some BIOS settings and test the RA-USB-3035-IN on my DFI with a USB3.0 PCI card to see whether the panel is to blame.

The backplane USB 3.0 ports work as expected though. In fact my Supertalent USB2.0 flash drive is about 5%faster in the superspeed port.

Chassis Fan1 header not full power?

    Hi Raja,

My MVG Chassis Fan1 header won't spin the fan up to full rpm, even with Fan expert 2 it recognises it as 2100rpm ish, but will 100% at around 1450rpm. Chassis Fan2 works fine, and I think Chassis Fan3 is good too.

Is this something that can be fixed with a Bios update, currently on 0813?

Also whats the max current on these headers, it says CPU header is 1A, so I assume the others are good for that also?

    Thanks

That header is tied to CPU temps, and I suppose the temp relative RPM will also depend upon the fan used...

Yes each header is rated at 1 amp.

Can I flash back on my Asus P8Z77-v Pro from Bios 1206 to Bios 1015 using EZ flash 2 in the Bios?
I like to flash back because of this Thread at the Asus Forum (First Post under Personal experience).
I dont like to use Bios recovery at the green USB port on the back, because i am afraid.

If you want to flash back, then use USB BIOS Flash works for me. Otherwise just stay on your current BIOS and don't worry about someone else's problems.

Would GameFirst II software work on Gene? I think the NIC hardware is pretty much the same...
By the way, it would be nice if M5G got a few updates in the Downloads section, M5F seems to be sporting more recent driver and utility versions.

I just picked up a P8Z77-V Deluxe for a dedicated gaming box at my kid's house (we LAN play as often as possible). While technically not as "enthusiast" as my 3960X and RIVE, the P8Z77-V Deluxe and 3570K abosolutely rocks. These came as a bundle on sale at Microcenter for out the door for under $450. With an 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, and GTX670 this rig is my favorite build of all time. Boots in 15 seconds and runs anything I throw at it. Overclocked without any effort to 4.6ghz with an H100 and it's quiet as mouse. There is more OC in it, but I'm not going to bother as I am not there 24/7 to tweak it.

My RIVE/3960x is a bit faster in a few tasks but I think anyone thinking about an IB/Z77 set up should jump in. This is a ton of performance for the money. And although not an ROG board, the P8Z77 series are very solid boards. I couldn't be happier. Total build time including Win7 install and overclock was just just over 2 hours. Soup to nuts. Gaming with my boys playing Diablo 3 in under 3 hours

Edit: I know this isn't technical Raja, so feel free to delete or move this post. I was just so impressed with how fast and easy getting this Asus P8Z77/3570k system up and rolling was I wanted to post up.

Is there a way to get around the chassis fan speed restriction for the P8Z77-VPro? I can only lower it to 60% duty cycle which makes them super noisy at gentle load. Also the upper temp limit for chassis fan only starts at 40c which means the actual cpu diode core temp has to hit well over 60c before the chassis fan will ramp up.

I have it set up like this:

    cpu header controlling mcp35x pump
chassis header controlling 3 1500rpm fans for radiator.

No way to change that as far as I know. Not sure if Fan xpert allows greater range than UEFI - you can try.

    P8Z77-V and fan control

Using P8Z77-V for the few months and so far am pretty impressed with it. Of course, I am not much of an overclockers. But there is some feedback I wanted to share with Asus representative here.

P8Z77-V has five fan headers, including two for CPU. But the Fan Xpert II shows only four fans (three chassis and one CPU) to me. The problem is with one of the CPU fan headers. I believe the speed on fan connected to this header is similar to what is set for the second CPU fan header. But still it will be nice to monitor this fan and control it separately. One more reason I want the two CPU fan headers delinked is because many people are likely to use one of these headers for exhaust fan on the back.

Those two headers are linked to the same controller so will vary their speed in the same way. This is a hardware limitation and is not likely to be changed at this point.

    Hi
Iam using P8z77 WS. With the HWiNFO64™ Latest Beta v4.01-1690, i got a message about the Asus EC sensor. This will monitor Dram, PCH, CPU PLL, VCCIO, CPU OPT.
My question, if you have any experience with this program, is.
Will you recommend to have these settings disabled or enabled

Ok I tried that and yes there is more adjustment. Would have been nice to not need the software though.

    Hello Raja,

    3 Questions.

    1) Is there anyway is disable the Intel iGPU in the BIOS? as at this time I have just disabled it via device manager.

    2) Does the Intel Rapid Storage Tech on the Asus site support Trim for RAID-0

    3) The dude in the Asus video says AIDA64 is a safe way to stability test an overclocked IVY - prime is bad for the chip.. is this still the case?

    Many thanks mate.

    Many thanks mate.

    1) On the ROG boards yes there is force disable if it comes on as there was a bug in UEFI. It will be in low power mode either way. Set UEFI to D-GPU in Advanced section>System Agent (I think). Set Multi-Monitor to disabled on your board and that should disable it.

    2) There is no trim support for RAID arrays at all at the moment. This will not change until next year i am told - on Windows 8.

    3) Stress tests like Prime95 and Linpack draw a lot of current. At higher clock speeds and voltages there is always the risk of damaging the CPU due to prolonged exposure to excessive over-current. Just use common sense and don't go crazy running hours and hours of stress tests.

I have these questions, i m using M5G with 3770k. 1)Using Fan xpert2 is giving me this issue, every time i boot/reboot my pc, although i have set all 3 fans at max speed, always and i mean always one of them is going at 0rpm. Is there any way to solve this? 2)When booting, in post screen i see 2 keyboards, 2 mice and 2 hubs, although i use 1 of them. Why is that? 3)I use the board for almost 2 months now, daily. I game, i fold etc. During this time one time it rebooted and one time it shut down, suddently, like power loss. Any ideas?

    1) When you reBOOT, you mean it stays at 0 RPM in Windows until you open Fan Xpert again and your previous profile loads?

    2) Just a misreport and nothing to worry about.

    3) No idea, it's impossible for someone to guess something like this. You will have to debug yourself. Could be overclock instability, could be heat, no way to tell from here. Maybe run some stress tests, see if the system is stable or not.

Update to the latest version of Ai Suite if you have not. Or you will have to wait until this is patched.

No, stay on the one uploaded for your board. I am not sure when it will be patched for FE profiles, so you may have to wait.

Copied and pasted from the M5G thread:

I found a couple of "bugs" in bios.

    - Changing CPU multplier always enables EIST,
    - Having all unneeded onboard devices disabled for benching, loading my daily 24/7 profile in OC Profiles makes the systems hang,
-The board seems to have a mind of it's own about choosing first boot device,
    - Full screen logo enables whenever it feels like it even though i always have it disabled. (have it disabled in my daily profile but loading that profile displays the full screen logo again)

All minor flaws, i had with both bios 0078 and 0903.

Found another one: The board seems to need to have the PSU on for a couple of seconds before i can actually turn the system on. Turning the main power on and immediately pushing the power button doesn't seem to turn the system on. I've never had this before on any other system.

The rest are known bugs, this one ensures the system works with all PSUs and is nothing to worry about.
