    Batch #L115C216

Tried 2 so far both from same batch, one 55x and one 56x, 56x cpu needed a ton of vcore and ran hot. This is the second one, http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2276446

I'm testing a 2550K L147C258 and it OCs like crap. Highest it can go stable is 5.1 @1.525v!!! I'm just never lucky.

x56 max so far, logged into Windows but got a BSOD before I could get a screenshot. That was at 1.615v on a Corsair H60 with the computer outside (outside temp 15*C). I was too wussy to try any higher vCore but I'm pretty sure if I got into Windows and then BSOD'd that would make this a x56 chip correct? I did manage to get this though which was better than my x54 max I got back in July last year with the same chip!

    2550k Batch #L115C216

Finally got some better cooling, bought a Single Stage unit built by runmc. This chip runs very hot, and needs a ton of vcore. My 24/7 install of w7, and the wrong version of wprime.

My first try on a the new unit, I feel like a kid again

With this chip you can put GTX 580 and go '01 or go Vantage with 3930K+7970

Some of you folks are unhappy unable to hit 5.0Ghz with 1.4v, mine requires 1.390v for 4.5Ghz and 1.452v for 4.8Ghz... which is really pathetic!

I've never really played around the PLL voltage its always been in auto, how would I know if I need to decrease or increase it ?

I run my CPU PLL at 1.5500v,with complete stability, there are those that say running it lower than the default 1.8v can reduce the amount of vcore needed, and it helps reduce temps slightly. You could try starting at 1.8v,and work your way down until you cant boot, then it's just a case of fine tuning.

So its only a matter of not being able to boot, if you can boot would that ensure stability ?

When you find the lowest PLL voltage that will boot,it's a matter of running some stress tests to fine tune,ie,you might be able to boot @ 1.500v,but being stable is not gauranteed,so you will need to fine tune until you are.

purchased yesterday at Microcenter to practice OC on the M5G and getting to know the board.

    Specs:
    • I5 2500K
    • Maximus V Gene
    • 2x4GB Samsung 30nm kit
    • Corsair H100
    • Antec Signature 850W

So far the CPU was doing great.
After few fine-tuning I reached 5.4GHz on water, and this speed *IS* as stable as a rock.
I mean really. temps under heavy load were around 75-79c, and it passed all the 3Dmarks with 560Ti clocked to 1GHz/2500.

in the pics the CPU V is 1.6, but I was able to get about the same results with 1.53V.

Now after I reached this stable speed the CPU seems to hit a wall.
I tried everything that I know - blasted voltage, minimized voltage, underclocked, tried a lot of mem timings, lowered mem to the lowest and to the default, and still - the system can not go over 5.4 not in BCLK or in multipliers.

    What am I doing wrong..
    what am I missing.

I see a lot of people doing X55 and X56 on the BCLK and benching with no problem.

Welcome to SB hell: it's the CPU... hello IB
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yup that's it...most duds happen to be the i5-25XX's.
2600k's are usually better but that batch from that MicroCenter $199 sale was pretty P.O.S. silicon.
2700k's are highly binned enuf not to be a dud but mediocre to great.

For regular moderate overclocking for 24/7 IB is the way to go - 4.5-4.6ghz easy overclock on air, up to 4.7-4.8ghz before you start cooking eggs and bacon.

i knocked my PLL voltage down to 1.5 from the 1.8 it defaulted at when i built it. haven't tried to go lower yet but when i get some more time i will.

You can set it at 1.6v and try testing for stability.
Then later you can try 1.55 - it may or may not be too low for your system - for one of mine I could pass Prime with 1.6 but not 1.55v.
