Most likely on the SR-X the graphics slots are only accessing a single CPU's lanes because it would probably be a lot harder to keep things in sync when running quadSLI if two cards connect to one CPU and the other two card to a different CPU. Id imagine it would be a driver nightmare. Probably why if all 4 slots are used it goes down to 4x8lanes

They want to sell those expensive as all hell E5-2690's and E5-2687W's..
I can understand that, just good business.
My personal view is they should unlock the top bin and enable the strap on that chip and let us show them what these suckers will really do!
Didn't I read somewhere about you having some correspondence regarding the unlocking of such CPu?

I am planning to put one in a Caselabs MH10. Kind of disappointed in the PCI-E layout of SR-X not to mention no unlocked SB-E, but hopefully Ivy Xeons will come in an unlocked variant.

In the bios, is there a way to disable the useless marvel sata controller? I'd like to have my pci-e lanes back for my other cards.

motherboards with onboard controllers can be disabled but they tend to be connected to the bridge chip on the motherboard and no you will not "get the lines back" not ever.

Too slow and well you get the picture

I'm waiting for the E5-2643s to come in stock they have a good price plus a good clock... I find 3.1Ghz of the E5-2687W to be a little weak for the price wand 150W.

Point but 3.1 isn't the number, 3.4 on turbo on all cores and 3.8 with 1-2 cores..
Now bump the BCLK to 105 and that 3.4 is 3570MHz and that 3.8 is 3990MHz..
Agreed, not earth shattering but not your Granma's average dualie either.
How do I see this? I think how is a machine going to run that has essentially 4-2600 quads on it!

I haven't seen many reviews yet on this board but I think Shamino was involved and that says a lot to me.

Well, if Shamino went to Asus, who did the SR-X?

I'm into stability, maybe a mild OC, that's it.. Just do not want any issue with Win 2k8 drivers, raid, network and stuff like that.

    Vince.. Kingpin..
Ther is essentially no overclocking on either the Asus or EVGA varients and thats because the BCLK is locked down on the server SB-e's and also no unlocked multis
Maybe 105-107 can be done on the BCLK

There are no unlocked xeons and beleive me, I have looked everywhere.
There was a rumor of unlocked C0 stepping ES's but no one I have talked to ever saw any.
IF anyone does have a pair, well, PM function always works!

I don't mind low oc, just need it to be simple and stable. The speed is not in doubt .
