Well Mate, after the fiasco of Asus' last effort, the Z7S, I would never spent a sent to be their guinea-pig ever again.

So, the same here, SuperMicro ot Tyan.

Not everyone needs the (badly implemented) overclocking features of most commercial boards anyway

I have my doubts that any multipliers will be unlocked. But hopefully we'll see Xeons that have unlocked bclk straps.

    2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 *1
    1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x8 mode) *1

A very nice board indeed...too bad Intel isn't interested in providing the unlocked CPUs that this this requires to really shine...

The board can access all 80 lanes from the CPUs, but has likely allocated 2 for the Marvell 9230 controller, 4 for the C602 and 2 for the USB 3.0 controller. 80 in total...

I read the manual which states it more slightly more clearly. Was just kind of surprised since the SR-X is only accessing like half the lanes.

I still think we need to wait and see on this. I hear rumor that inside Intel( yes, a pun) that there is talk of "How to allow OC'ing on the 8 cores."
Remember, these arfe Intel's cash cow and they don't want people doing what they did with the low end 5620's to happen again.
They want to sell those expensive as all hell E5-2690's and E5-2687W's..
I can understand that, just good business.
My personal view is they should unlock the top bin and enable the strap on that chip and let us show them what these suckers will really do!

Interesting indeed...hopefully something comes to pass from this. They want to sell the top bin chips? No problem, I'd like to buy a couple...and considering the many benefits they offer...very likely more than a couple. If they were multiplier and BCLK unlocked, I'd be very happy to take them off Intel's hands. However, to shell out what is a very premium price for a product that is castrated, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

This is sort of like purchasing a Bugatti Veyron with a 60mph speed limiter on it...the price of admission should ensure that any artificial limitations are removed and the product you get is the best that the company can offer...a nothing left out, nothing disabled, top quality product. I'm happy to pay a premium price for such a product. Hopefully, Intel realizes that considerable money can be made off folks with the same mindset and provides this product.

They can call it whatever they wish. Xeon Extreme Edition, E5-2687WK, E5 Xeon Uncut Edition...I don't really care what they call it.

Also, the top bin of the E5-4600 series should be unlocked as well...you never know where that may lead. The thought of an overclocked Pelted quad processor Romley-EP system at 5 GHz makes me quiver slightly...
