Radcom I wouldnt mind doing somethimg theme based, we might want to start out with a pretty wide theme like spending the month taking shots that define your city/town/village, my area has a lot of history to choose from so it would be easy for me, any other ideas?
Lestat I am still shooting Nikon but I am giving Sigma lenses a hard look, thanks for the info though.

Rokinon, Bower, Samyang, Vivitar .. same brand, originaly its Samyang, rest is brand for other parts of world. Samyang are supposed to be best quality of them, though probably they are identical. Lately Samyang started to be quite famous for cheap and quality lens, I guess that brand will be maybe bit more important in future. If they added AF, it would cause lot of trouble to Canikon.![]()

What are your guys opinions on diopter filters?
Chances are I wont have the money for a macro lens within the next two years, and these diopter filters are only $20 a pop.

Bought cheap Zeikos AF-S extension tubes, $70...Amazon reviews say AF and aperture still work with them, the Canon version someone complained about aperture/autofocus failing completely with all three 12+20+36 tubes and working 9/10 times with two stacked. We will see how things go. I just hope the 20+36 stacked work together well and allow aperture/AF. (It would allow ~1:2 on the 55-300 @ 300 and 1:1 with just the 36 on the 18-55 @55mm)
Attached is my picture of the day:

Thanks kwscore, first time shooting fireworks, I found 15sec exposures and an iso of 100 seemed to work best.
Nice shot btw.
dont use the "filter" macro lenses they are junk. its like looking thru the end of a beer bottle
i dont like macro tubes either because you have to be super super SUPER close to the object depending on what size tube you use.
sometimes you darn near have to touch the object.
but if you decide to go with tubes, and that ok. spend the extra money and get the Kenko auto focus enabled tubes.
otherwise you loose total aperture control and you are stuck using the widest aperture of the lens and for macro work that isnt good, especially on a tube.
using a tube with say an F 1.8 lens or even an F2.8 lens your DOF is maybe a couple of millimeters or less.
if you have the kenko tubes you can still control fstop and thus get a better DOF to get more in focus.
plus tubes will turn any lens into a macro...

Kenko AF tubes are exactly what I would have gotten, but I do not have the time or money to wait for a Kenko set.
I'm leaving on vacation to West Virginia on Saturday, and there are lots of flowers/insects/wildlife where we live...
I had about $80 in bitcoin spare, so I bought an $80 Amazon gift card with them through a transaction service and bought these:
http://www.amazon.com/Zeikos-ZE-CVAF...pr_product_top
Due to $h*tty manufacturing I dont expect to be able to stack all three and retain AF/fstop control...hopefully two work well and they attach/release smoothly enough.
For $70, we will see if they were worth it or not. Considering the Kenko's are $200, if these work "well enough" to be functional I'll be happy.
As far as nearly touching the object, 60mm macro 1:1 should have the same focus distance as a 60mm (or in my case 55mm) prime/zoom at 1:1, right? I understand thats awefully close, though I should be able to do 1:2 with the 55-300mm at a distance.

those other lenses, the one you said you got are the same as the kenko at half the cost.
and yes i have read where people on amazon say stacking all three will lose aperture control and focus
thats because of crappy connections so if you do have that propblem clean them and make sure they are making proper contact on the camera, lens and each tube when connected.
good luck with the tubes, i am eager to see what you are able to do with them.
