Indeed. FANTASTIC picture. Lighting is sooo perfect.

Now that Lestat pointed out the couple thing the clouds could seem to be a bit foreboding on the relationship to the superstitious =P

I always enjoy the rounded pattern of bokeh that occurs once in a while. Weevils example sorta looks like it's being funneled into a central point. I wonder what causes to that.

The 135 f2L is brutal. its too bad his movement was spuratic and the focal point was across his back and not on his head where i wanted.
of course stopping it down more would have cured that a little.
They sell for 900-950 in the for sale section over at PoTN i recommend anyone with a canon camera go buy one. Its one of canon's sharpest lenses ever.
I cant wait to get out and take some good shots.
Also got my 100mm IS f2.8L macro to use.

    Here is one using it.
The boy was sleeping on the couch and was squooshing his face so i got right up on him and took a few.

Swirling bokeh, its caused by some fast lens. Most pronounced is probably on Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 (but its pretty much similar on 55mm and 50mm versions). If Im correct its usually only lens with older design (that really doesnt mean bad lens). Why.. hm, hard to say, probably lens design itself as it needs to suck a lot of light, maybe it bends light in different way than others.

canon 50mm 1.4 and sigma 30mm 1.4 do it extremely heavily.
    it looks really neat too.
i think i have only seen it on lenses that can do 1.4.
maybe 1.8 but i dont recall

here is one i did last year at f/1.4 - edit - changed to a different photo that shows off the swirl more

Wow.. really swirly. Yup usually only fast lens can do it, saw only on 1.2 or 1.4 .. though I think Noctilux does it too..

Spiral bokeh is due to optical vignetting - http://toothwalker.org/optics/bokeh.html

A little surprise on campus this morning in the bookstore parking lot:

May be bright points of light, and in the case of the chicken pic, bright sun shining on leaves at just the right focal length.

I'm feeling this response, too, seems it has something to do with subject distance and OOF distance of the inteded bokeh. Will start messing around with it.

The Rose shot was taken with the 18-55mm kit lens and a D5000.
