What if you get to the windows XP splash screen (with the bar thing moving), and then the computer just restarts?
(I tried to boot at x54 with 1.5v BIOS, LLC1, and Windows would have no part of it, just restarted on the XP splash screen (I got past the OS choices selection menu of course). Does that mean it needs more vcore?

Um, on the gigabyte boards, you can set how many cores to use, like 1-4.
I don't know if you can MANUALLY choose which core is disabled by setting a multiplier to 0...never thought about that...I would think there is a minimum multiplier allowed, though?
So I take it that the 3101A201 with the SN# closest to A1499 would probably OC better? I haven't checked the local MC yet, but I think they still haven't sold out the tons of 2600K CPUs with the usual batch I have seen for the past three months or so yet. And even so, I may still not be able to buy one until my 14-day "Day Between Purchase" expires, which should be another week and a half. What a stupid policy, they are here to sell, so why care who buys how many times as long as they have the money to spend, right? That's the stupidest policy I have seen yet.

Is it normal to have one core (core 0 maybe) be cooler than the other three? After a day of benching and stress testing my max temps (linx) were:
c0 63c
c1 71c
c2 72c
c3 70c

Can someone chime in on how consistent temp is among all the cores for the Costa Rica-based batch when idle? I know the Malaysia-based batch have a very consistent temp when idle (ie: core0 28, core1 28, core2 28, core 3 28). When stressed, each core may have a different temp.

OMG!!! I'm going to kill myself for sure. Just exchanged an L051B138 for a 3103B332 and it's not even stable at 4.6Ghz using 1.350v (the B138 was completely stable then)!!! It's getting worse!

sigh....
if i weren't already committed to giving my friend my 2600k (and buying him a UD4), I'd just sell you my first 2600k for half price (the one that does 5 ghz at 1.5v) and does X49 with PLL disabled (didn't try booting to win at x49, just BIOS, but x50 PLL disabled is immediate overclock failed, same as my second chip).
Sorry about the luck you're having.

I got up on my feet, gathered my courage and took that suckee CPU back and exchanged it for yet another same batch with a different SN. This one is at least stable at the initial 4.6Ghz using 1.350v. Max bootable into Windows is 52x @1.550v, but far, far from stable. It would BSOD almost instantly when Prime95'ed. Tried 50x100 using 1.50v, but seems like it's not stable either with "processor [x] stopped" message. Not worth using 1.550v for a 5Ghz speed (heat and CPU life degradation). Man, CPU binning is the flakiest thing I have ever done. Never have so many bad luck in my entire life!
