    Is this what its come to. Video card companies paying developers to make games that their new hardware can actually use.

    if crytek isnt going to put out a dx11 patch i hope for their sake they gave nvidia the $2 mil. back. i wouldnt want to anger nvidia's legal department

    The entire article is satire.

    I am extremely disappointed in anyone who actually believes the article. Perhaps actually read the article before posting it as proof of anything.

    And not only that, you saved money by doing so since Portal 2 is cheaper!

    Decided to ditch Crysis 2 and move onward to P2 myself. Though im sure I'll get Crysis 2 eventually, just not yet.

    It's come to my attention that Tiago Sousa, principle r&d graphics programmer at Crytek, deleted his tweet about currently working on DX11 for Crysis 2... Looks like the cancellation of a DX11 patch may be the sad truth after all.

    How much you wanna bet they're going to sit on it until a Crysis 2 expansion set, ala EA "lets charge for EVERYTHING" style.

    Crytek will realize they f'kd their franchise by screwing the PC gamers when Battlefield 3 sales blows it out of the water.

    That article rocked my socks off.

    Man, totally true parody of how PC gamers are. Should have added pirate elements too, would have made it perfect.

    Or is it possibly evidence that it is coming, but they don't want anyone knowing about it?

    They realized they ed up the first time when nobody could run it and threw a fit thus screwing up their sales. Maybe this time they'll take the hint and not bather with a drama queen community.

    Dude, my laptop with a 5470 with a measly 80 shaders can run Crysis and Crysis warhead just fine. The engine scales down amazingly well.

    What would you rather have?

    A. Game that looks really good at medium settings and runs at current hardware, but looks better than anything presented so far at max settings, but needs next-gen hardware.

    B. Game that looks really good at max settings and runs at current hardware, but there's no way to increase the graphics further.

    Crysis 1 went with A, and I'm glad it went with that choice. It made sure new and faster hardware than available was needed. That's what's pushing PC-gaming graphics!

    Indeed, was quite funney when everyone complained the could run it on very high (expect those with tripple sli) or custom extreme. Yet the game even had amazing effects on high.

    with sil/xfire its tough for games to fall into category A

    the average person might have a gpu worth 100$, but you can spend nearly 2000$ on gpus.

    so if one person has duel 6990s, and another has a mainstream card (sub 200$ card), how many generations will it take before mainstream are above the current maximum?

    Usually one generation, tough that might is changing now.

    But over the past few generations it was usually that 2 highend cards in sli from the previouse generation where as fast as a new single highend card.

    2x285GTX->580GTX
    2x9800gtx->285GTX

    it really depends on how someone classifies a generation then

    4800 to 5800, die shrink and larger chip thus doubled
    5800 to 6800 was just optimization and so minor gains, even though its a year after
    6800 to 7800 should be about double due to the major shrink happening, but thats easily another year away.

    so overall its about 50% perf increase per year
    perf/$ however im not so sure about. when the 5800s came out, perf/$ didnt drop a dime, for months, and in the last 2 years things have only become a little better looking at the overall picture. im thinking of getting a 6950, but its only ~3x faster than my 4850, but the current price of the 6950 is also about 3x that of the old price i paid for my 4850 about 18 months ago

    in summary, i dont think perf increases are really happening as fast as people think.
