alright... so after about 6 hours of toying around with it i am 100% positivey convinced that i may just have a crappy chipset on my RE3 which isn't unheard of.
i've tried 6 sticks = 12gigs
i've tried 3 stick = 6gigs
2 sticks...
and 1 stick...
i've tried different dram slots and different configurations. my specific RE3... will... not... take... more than 1866mhz on memory period. i've tested both my dominators and my G.Skills of which are the 1600mhz CL7 ones that have the super low 1.3v requirements. my RE3 will not take the 2000mhz or more. i get it to boot once, and then when i restart the system, bios will hang... every... time... and will continue to do so unless i force shutdown, start up and then it tells me overclock failed even though on the first try on just about every setting i use, it boots to windows and runs fine until i restart or shutdown... then it starts all over again so... 1866 it is until i replace this motherboard. no one should spend $300 on a motherboard and recieve the maturity of a 4 year old out of it... nuff said...
EDIT: yep see... i put all 6 stick back in and put it on the 1T timings i mentioned above and it's perfectly fine... and on 4.5ghz at 1866.
