For what it's worth JF has already said he isn't hearing anything about chipset problems from the desktop people.
From the info I been hearing is the problem with the AM3 boards is the voltage reg. The AM3+ CPU's need a different voltage reg that can control voltage per core real time and the AM3 boards can only change voltage real time for all cores. I think the its the voltage reg and not the chipset thats the problem the the AM3 boards.
I have been in impression that compatibility is not issue of chipset but issue of socket and power lanes and such.
So old 8 series chipsets would not work, but new would work just by doing mobo with socket AM3+
.......and it looks like it does.

I am not aware of any chipset issues. The fact that we are running BD on the same server chipsets that we introduced in 2009 *might* be an indicator that there is little truth to those rumors.
People need to understand that that chipsets and sockets are not the same thing.

Looks like gigabyte is upgrading some of their 8xx boards to rev 3.1, now most seem to have a gray am3b socket.
That won't be the responsibility of the voltage regulator. CPUs do power gating internally. The regulator just has to provide the power rail to draw from.

Could it be that Llano will have one extra pin, because of the integrated video and FX series have the same count of pins as the current AM3 generation.
This means FX processors will fit in all current AM3 motherboards if there's a bios update...

oh geez now I'm confused...this Asus announcement really stumps me as I can't see how they would make new revisions of old boards just to support am3+, but that really does appear to be the only way.
