if you have to pay for 2 downclocked chips, hopefully the price you pay is for their current performance (so like 600$ instead of 800+), then all we gotta do is watercool and overclock and get 30% more perf out of it and catch up to 580sli OC. most people paying for such cards either dont care about a higher price, or know how to overclock.
The performance crown isnt won by watercooled OCed cards, but the reference design. If 6990 is the better on paper nvidia might loose some PR, but then again gain some if they manage some WR with it.
