You get the best quality/performance ratio by default. Sounds like a sound approach to me, especially when some applications can go way overboard with tessellation with no noticeable image quality gains.
You don't like it? Pick a different setting. Big deal.

You allow them to reduce the detail by default. Do you have PC or Xbox?
This option you can always change by yourself to lower the quality of graphics if your graphics card can`t cope with Tessellation.
So tell me why you think this is good approach to set like this. To cheat me, you and XXX gamers.

the same thing you had with Anisotropic filtering for a few months.Now they improved finally.
let's be serious you pay for 100% not for 75% of your card.
