Everyone is speculating, I was making a comment about something that was rumors. I wasn't saying it was fact or anything. Seriously what is your problem? You really want blood it seems.
I am just some guy on a forum, like everyone else. I don't claim to have connections and I am not a journalist who's words really have an impact on the market or others buying decisions. I am not making money on what I post, I don't have a website even.
Given the info and leaks at the time(none at all really about the hardware specs), about cards just making it into partners hands at the time(where I said it could be a paperlaunch), that guess is fair especially since we were getting so little info available at the time. I remember a person who is connected to AMD in India saying, the headquarters there doesn't even have the card. There was a lot pointing to little quantities to no quantities, especially in China, where if there was a large amount of cards, I think it is fair to expect a leak. Its alot easier to protect from leaks if there are little cards in production. I remember digitimes saying something also about a lack of cards.
Considering how little information has made it out until about a 3 days ago and no news about a card at all sometimes indicates the card is still not finalized yet. The leaks for 68xx and even 58xx were a lot more concrete a month before release.
I think the paper launch speculation had some weight at the time considered the delayed release and the need for AMD to release competition at the time.
We are all just making speculation at this point.
We all make revised statements as more information comes in. This forum is proof of that and this thread itself. However some rumors are more ridiculous than others and I think we should be able to filter though some of them that are more ridiculous. The more ridiculous a rumor you can believe, the more of a fanboy you are. I think what separates a fanboy from a regular person is to take into account reason in speculation. Any time I have said something relatively different that people may not agree with, I have explained my reasons.

I'd only consider the 6950 CF option, going from a 580 to a 6970 would be pointless unless single card eyefinity or DTS HD passthrough are features you want.
Realistically you'd get significantly better performance at 1920x1080 and above with the crossfire setup in the majority of recent titles but do have to live with the occaisional growing pains on new releases ( I 've owned 4 multi card / dual gpu setups both SLI and CF ) If you have room in your enclosure for 2 dual slot gpus and dont intend to watercool, 2 6950s would be decent for the 20% increase in price over a 580 ( I fully expect them to go for 300-330 in canada, I got my 580 for well under 500cnd )
You do game at 2560x1600 if I recall so 2 6950 might be the way to go for you. They should allow playable performance in nearly all current titles with 8x AA if thats your cup of tea.

hd 6970 0.2% Faster than GTX 570 ... so wtf you are Talking about![]()
I'm looking forward to Fuad apologising for 'his sources' after the price leak article he posted!![]()
you do realize you linked the like the only test that the 6970 beats the 580 in... almost every other graph at 1920x1200 with AA+AF (probably closest to the most common settings here on XS) shows the 580 and 570 beating the 6970.
It also shows the 6970 beating the 6950 by an average of 10% making the 6950 a much more attractive card. however there are a handful of tests where the GTX 470 beats the 6950... not to mention that the 6950 only beats the 5870 in a few cases and even the 6970 at times has trouble beating the 5870.
now granted this is ONE review and a sketchy one at that so tomorrow will tell for sure. i did notice however that the performance is about the same as the 5870 in most older games (non DX11) but performance is a good bunch better in newer DX11 games which makes sense if you think about the way the designed it to be better at tessellation.
Overall time will tell as to what is faster and what is the best buy, Im betting it will be about a week before all the reviews are sorted and prices settle and Nvidia drops prices to match and whatnot. needless to say this will be an exciting week in GPU land.
oh and to all the guys complaining about drivers... you expect review sites to RE-BENCH everything in 24hours? are you out of your minds? i remember reading the HWC article on how they bench cards and what goes into your average review. it takes DAYS to get things tunned in, I can remember SKYMTL saying he took about 6 hours per GPU just for the overclocking part of the review, factor that in for two cards and thats 12 hours just to OC the cards let alone bench them... besides do you really thing drivers will make that much of a diff? most games won't benefit at all some may get a 10% boost but on average im betting it's 5% boost if that...

Thanks for the input guys... and yeah I game at 2560x1600, was thinking toward having MLAA and maybe gaining some performance (I have a Corsair TX950w PSU and plenty of case room) for a couple bucks, or losing a bit of performance while gaining some bucks
. Good to hear that it's been working well lately, eases my mind on the consideration.
yep, it's why I'm saying it's like the 48xx series all over again. Although early days the reviews of AVP, Crisis and metro are showing it ahead of the 670 (and 580 in 1).
So price/performance is extremely good. They wont have the crown, but then again it doesn't matter. As I say, it like the 48xx launch all over again. Nvidia will have to lower their prices.
completly agree, it's from 1 review site and I just posted 1 game. It does seem slower in DX9, around equal in DX10 but looks like it might take on the 580 in DX11.
Early days, but a the price point it's being released a, it's fair to say it's extremely good value for money (if it doesn't draw to much power...)
ya if rumored pricing is to be believed it will be a much better bargain then the 580, but it's always been that way, you want the fastest card you pay for it... however Nvidia will NEED to drop prices for sure. However im just wondering by how much, historically AMD cards have not treated the Canadian market very nice in the way of pricing compared to Nvidia (or at least the e-tailers i use which are the cheapest around BTW) im hoping to see the 6970 for no more then $400 (350 would be golden) and the 6950 for around $300, that would hopefully drop the GTX 580 to 450-400 and the GTX 570 to 300ish (considering it is already at 350ish)
your on to something with the DX11 to. Considering a 6870 or GTX 460 can run most DX9 or DX10 games to the max already, DX11 games are whats important and it's good to see AMD making improvements there. it just a shame that so far it does not seem to the 40% faster then God card that people hyped it out to be

Jesus!! hd 6970 0.2% Faster than GTX 570 so Give me one reason To Make nvidia lower their prices , hd 6970 price 370$ and GTX 570 350$ . Outside of Metro 2033, there really isn't anything you can't play on the GTX 460/6870 maxed out unless you're on a 30" monster monitor or you absolutely refuse to play under 60fps. I've started back up that game(as games like this I usually will only play if I can max it) and to keep it 100% playable I've dropped it down to 720p(TV for monitor) 4xMSAA maxed. Still looks great and all, but really this is the only game I've had issue with on this card. 720p though remains 100% playable, and I probably could do 1600x900 but I have a feeling it'd get some slow-down in some spots.
It's kind of funny how lately we've had more GOOD video cards than we've had GOOD games come out that take advantage of those GOOD video cards. Both companies really have been bringing their A game, just wish we had the games to take advantage of that fact.![]()
Way to long reply, doesn't make you right.
You just can't have it both ways, maybe next time think twice before posting. Specially if it is something negative about AMD in AMD thread.
If it was your ONLY negative post about AMD in this thread I would have probably ignore it.
First you were speculating about paper launch. Based on nothing.
Now you're speculating about "they could have launch the card month ago" also based on nothing.
It sure makes a lot of sense.
My last post on the subject, if you want to talk more about it, take it PM where I can be more open.

Very true, but as DX11 takes hold, it will be more difficult for games companies to just port console games over. those who do, will be losing out to the newer generation of PC developers.
It's a pity DX10 was a let down, as it didn't seem to bring much to the gaming table, DX11 however looks a big step up from DX9.
yeah boyWAit a couple more hours for more reviews
