I was expecting 6970 to be on par with 580, at worst. The leaks so far indicating that 6970 is not that high on performance. If those leaks are true, then the only card left for AMD to play is to win the performance/dollar battle like they did with 4000 series.

they have done that for the 3000 and 4000 series and would have done that for the 5000 series also if there was some competitions (NOT) and will do the same thing for 6000 series and 7000 series.
You are forgetting the ATI target of manufacturing and deployment idea... smaller/cooler and uber high end stick 2 together on single card.

we end up with about 470 US$.

On the Swedish site in the link, cheapest cards:

    Nvidia GTX 570 3.500 skr.
    AMD HD 6970 4.095 skr
    Nvidia GTX 580 4.700 skr

So the 6970 is exactly in the middle, price wise, on this site.

5% as far to 580gtx is not high on performance?

The 580gtx is around 15% faster than 480gtx, and in dx11 the 6970 will trade blows with the 580 and likely beat it, and that isnt high on performance?
so the 580 gtx sxxk axs is that what you say?
since if the 6970 is around it and beats it, it is ty performance?
Gee, people need to examine their brains a lot more, check for facts and stop the distortions and the brainwash Nvidia is doing.

The 6900 series is priced here lower than the 5000 serie from nvidia, amd wins the price/performance game, crossfireX scales awesome and Nvidia is in for a big hurt again due to the cards from Nvidia is no wehre to buy.

2x6950 and the upcoming 6990 will be the card to get for people wanting a supercard best of the world, king of the hill fastest in the Universe is AMD 6990 and we have a winner!

True to that. But with 4000 series, ATI/AMD did massive blow to nv.
I want amd do that again this round. Unlikely it seems, seeing that nv prices 570 decently.

i dont think so, just 2 6850's get equal performance to 5970 and 5970 outperform gtx 580 by as much as 15%, if you trust techpowerup's slides.

early drivers, one month old and we will get a more optimized driver while not much difference in performance it will add more solid numbers all around.
will trade blows with 580 likely beat it at dx11 games.
    overclocking it will likely rock.

its in the ballpark where it should/might be on 40nm.
expecations are hard for some, many expect a difference but seldom notice one in practice.

    cheaper.

I either get 2x6950 or wait for 6990.
    running 5760x1080 has its drawbacks

    Cool

IMHO GTX 580 is still a better buy if your not dirty poor and compromising to save few bucks.

    Game Compatibility
Nvidia has generally better (with all the cash they dumb in game companies TWIMTBP titles ect) yes such company bias is bad but it is what it is and we have to live with it, it can be a bonus if your on such camp nvidia does put more effort in getting certain game features working, you don't see AMD putting such efforts.

    Sponsored Games
As such sponsored games by nvidia eg. Lost Planet 2, Hawx 2 ect. perform substantially better on geforce line. (it might be a bit to early to make this claim as we don't have enough direct 580/480 comparisons only 5870/6970 but looking at LP2 a stock 480 is substantially faster)

    Single GPU Preference
Taking above into account Single GPU performance wise GTX 580 is a fastest you can get. (A bit premature i know but my claim seem logical)

    Extras
PhysX (hopefully it will die and get replaced by something better but for now it is free Candy if you have Geforce no such perk from AMD side)

CUDA (not really relevant to games but those who use programs who support it, know its a nice bonus to have)

3D gaming (currently the only solid platform from nvidia, AMD response is pathetic with so little effort put into it)

    Mutual Abilitys
Multi Display gaming (Need SLI for 3 monitor gaming, this one AMD is one step ahead sorta still need crossfire for acceptable FPS especially with more then 3 monitors)

Both can do SLI/CF (nothing to see here)

my crossfire 6850 setup runs faster than a 580gtx and is a lot cheaper.
it runs better in the games I play than nvidia hardware does.

I would compromizing my game experience if I bought nvidia stuff.
